Sridevi never told her director what Kaate Nahin Kat Te was costing her on the Mr. India schedule.

The 1987 film was already a long shoot. Boney Kapoor has said it took about 380 days, and this one song alone took 21 days. She was in the blue chiffon saree, under a wind machine, getting wet take after take.

She was running a high fever. Shekhar Kapur later wrote that she hid it from him. She had been advised to rest, and not to get wet, because she could become seriously ill. She made choreographer Saroj Khan swear she would not tell him.

After every shot she would come up and ask if it was all right, if they should do it again, because she could read in his eyes that he was not fully satisfied. All the while she was burning with fever and in pain. He only found out from Saroj Khan after the song was done.

Boney Kapoor has also said she was sick for two or three days during that stretch and still shot with a temperature.

Mr. India turned that blue saree into the image a generation still remembers. The fever stayed off camera !
