@wallaceme Sorry maybe not clear. I would like to see it abolished. I donโt get the view that IHT helps improve anyoneโs life chances. Ie I agree with your point. You are much better off just producing abundance of opportunity and not have a targeted spiteful death tax
@wallaceme@lewis_goodall I donโt understand how this actually improves opportunity elsewhere? Itโs a small amount in total, and I imagine in reality the IHT take, just ends up paying down some of our debt interest. I would be interested to hear tangible improvements IHT makes to others life chances?
@JamesP728 You are seeing the result of that cynicism now with punitive taxes and now capital flight. Presumably the wheel will turn again and we start to appreciate the wealth creators?
@JamesP728 I reckon you trace it back to the 2008 crash. A group of people/organisations were perceived to take the economy to the brink with the GFC. Ever since then there has been a suspicion/cynicism and often hatred of anyone that earns large amounts of money.
@andrew_lilico Also countries like Norway donโt have IHT, so although they have a wealth tax, would the UK be an outlier to have both IHT and a separate wealth tax

"It is expected that the VAT collected will be less than the fiscal impactโฆgiving a net loss of ยฃ16m, to rise to ยฃ181m by 2037-38."
