Celtic FC have distanced themselves from decades of child sexual abuse by hiding behind the ‘separate entity’ argument.

Spotlight has posted countless examples (quotes, screenshots etc) that show clearly, the falsehood of this claim, which emerged when the sexual and physical abuse of Celtic Boys Club players were first brought to the public’s attention.

Shortly after Jim Torbett’s second child sexual abuse conviction in 2018, the club released a statement claiming that:

"Allegations regarding abuse at Celtic Boys Club first emerged in the 1990s.

Although Celtic Football Club is an entirely separate organisation, we have always taken these allegations extremely seriously because of our historic contacts with Celtic Boys Club."

In 1974, Celtic FC manager Jock Stein dismissed Celtic Boys Club founder Torbett, after he admitted to abusing Boys Club players.

In 1977, Stein presented Torbett with a 'Life Membership of Celtic Boys' award for setting up the Boys Club in 1966.

In 1978, after Stein had left Celtic FC, Torbett was invited to return to Celtic Boys Club - by Frank Cairney.

During the 1978 Celtic Boys Club Awards Dinner, Stein and Torbett were made Honorary Vice-Presidents of Celtic Boys Club.

In 1986, Torbett and Boys Club general manager Frank Cairney were the subjects of an in-house ‘investigation’ following concerns voiced by parents.

The ‘investigation’ was co-led by Celtic FC chairman Jack McGinn and vice chairman Kevin Kelly, who was also the Celtic Boys Club president.

Torbett and Cairney were exonerated, and Celtic FC threatened legal action against anyone taking the matter further.

The police were not involved in either 1974 or 1986.

Jack McGinn dismissed Cairney in 1991, after he admitted to abusing Celtic Boys Club players during a summer tour of Kearny, NJ.

Again, the police were not involved.

Both Torbett’s sudden 1974 ‘departure’, and Cairney’s 1991 ‘departure’ were explained away as either ‘pressure of work’ or ‘promotion’ in their full-time jobs.

Much has been written, over the past weeks and months, of the cover-up of organised
'grooming gangs' by
successive UK governments.

Sadly, this is nothing new.

Successive Scottish governments have looked away from decades of child sexual and physical abuse perpetrated by pedophiles at all levels of Scottish football.

Numerous demands from victims, their families and even MSPs, to either extend the remit of the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) to include sporting organisations, or set up an independent Inquiry, have either been ignored or flatly refused by First Ministers Nicola Sturgeon, Humza Yousaf and John Swinney.

The most egregious by far, is a club where over 300 children were abused either by direct employees or recognised associates - Celtic FC.

Worse still, from 1974 onwards, those with the power at the club to do something about it, did nothing.

Today we will post the testimony given by former Celtic
FC chairman and Celtic Boys Club president Kevin Kelly on 6 Nov 1998, at the trial of Celtic Boys Club founder and coach, Jim Torbett.

Then we will compare it with the FACTS.

Successive UK Governments have looked the other way from child sexual abuse for decades. @elonmusk

The Celtic Boys Club scandal is the most egregious example of child sexual abuse in world sporting history. It dwarfs even the Penn State and US Gymnastics cases.

From the 1960s to the 2010s, NINE convicted serial paedophiles sexually and physically abused boys in the UK, mainland Europe and various locations in the USA, including Florida and New Jersey.

The survivors have been fighting for justice for 60 years. There is currently a Class Action - the first of its kind in Scottish legal history - in progress.

Countless requests for an independent Inquiry have been submitted to Humza Yousaf in his role as Justice Minister and later, First Minister.

He has consistently ignored them and passed the buck to others to respond.

Unsurprisingly, Mr Yousaf is a high-profile supporter of @CelticFC.

A full, independent Public Inquiry is the only way these men will get the truth.
