Saudi Arabia first signed a bilateral security pact with Pakistan. And then it signed a trilateral security pact with Pakistan and Turkey because it wanted to diversify its security options as the US became increasingly unreliable. And then it turned to the same US for help as the #Houthis (Ansar Allah) started attacking the kingdom and capturing more lands in Yemen. The Americans said 'no thanks'. The Pakistanis offer only deep anguish and condemnation. The Saudis offer political solidarity. In effect, the Saudis are left with themselves. The collective security clause of the Mecca Pact, signed on August 7, was dead on arrival.

The Saudis shouldn't have provoked this war with the Houthis. I scratch my head trying to understand why did they bomb the Sana'a airport on July 13!
