#IYD2020KE YD2020 Commemorating the International Youth Day 2020 in Kakamega.... Celebrating youth empowerment and achievements over the time. Youth here have vowed to address issues hindering their growth n development; including alcohol and drug abuse
@ntvkenya I know the government means well for PWDs and is trying all it can to address their issues in relation to Covid-19. However, the gvt relies on NCPWDS and such organizations for advise. The truth is that most are silent now when they shouldn't! #NewNormal
@Ali_Manzu Good initiative especially now when most are struggling. However, the move utterly discriminates against youth living with disabilities, as it targets only the so called "able bodied youth". I wonder !!
@NACADAKenya@ntvkenya
@NACADAKenya online purchasing and delivery of alcohol puts young people's health at risk by providing an easy way to access alcohol. Parents should endeavor to minimize their kids access to internet as a way to put this to check. #positiveParenting
Emmanuel Roy Kulundu: We are worried that we may also contract the coronavirus…As front-line workers, we need to use PPEs. County gov’ts are trying to ensure we have enough PPEs

Parents have the power to shape their child's attitude about alcohol and drugs. Children who learn risks about Alcohol & Drugs from parents are less likely to use than those who don't #MotivationMonday#PositiveParenting
@NACADAKenya@KBCChannel1 Parents do have an important tool available to them when it comes to keeping their kids away from drugs: TALKING..... They need to begin early when they r still young and approach it differently for different ages. #positiveparenting
@NACADAKenya it is important to start the conversation when they r still young. For instance u can begin by asking them open ended questions like, what they know about drugs. Often show them that u r listen n paying attention to what they r saying #positiveparenting
@NACADAKenya another strategy is to avoid "communication stoppers (vitisho)" especially when discussing substance use issues with kids n teens. Often give them a chance to freely express what they know about drugs and guide them carefully. @radiomaisha
@NACADAKenya Research shows that kids frm authoritarian families often tend 2b rebellious n aggressive later in life; this exposes them to various social vices including substance use. What works well is to spend time listening n guiding them

@NACADAKenya most kids see their parents as their No 1 role models, and as such, they tend to emulate them in many ways. For instance, if u keep/ drink alcohol at home, be sure that sooner or later they will want to do the same. Tafakari! #positiveparenting
@NACADAKenya@radiomaisha Parents should spend some quality with each of their children (at least 10mins per day per child). This will help them know them better and understand their needs. This also help improve communication n trust between them...
