A bullaun stone built into a wall close to the early Kilrush Church ruins and graveyard on the outskirts of #Dungarvan. There is a record of an #Ogham stone found at the church in the 19th century but no sign of it today.

Interesting cures from #Abbeyside Mícheál McCarthy #SchoolsFolklore While some are far fetched, its amazing how many have proven benefits to health including the dandelion thought to have antibacterial anti-inflammatory benefits

'Our army came close before the town of Dungarvan fifty, were killed & hanged. On the other side of the Towne; many killed & throwne into the sea. Some say 200, some 300 & some 400. But I am of opinion 200 were the most that were slayne'

Fascinating how many of our old cures have proven medicinal qualities. One of the most common local old cure for warts (the slime of a snail) is often recorded in the schools folklore collection & has since been proven to have a scientific basis
