This game comes with a shocking lack of plot to cover up nakedly unoriginal gameplay!
That’s Zzap! magazine’s verdict on Sonic Boom, scoring it only 58% for the Commodore Amiga game released by Activision in 1990.
You pilot a super-powered jet fighter called “Sonic Boom” through six intense levels packed with enemy planes, tanks, gunboats, and massive end-of-level bosses.
Collect power-ups to upgrade your speed, firepower, and devastating special weapons (like the screen-clearing mega-bomb). It’s classic 80s arcade shmup action with that satisfying “one more go” feel.
The Amiga version looks and plays great for its time: smooth scrolling, decent sound, and faithful to the coin-op.
It’s a fun, straightforward blaster that holds up surprisingly well today.
Was Zzap! magazine’s rating a bit harsh, or right on the mark? What do you think of Sonic Boom?

Why is it so easy for people to hate and dismiss, yet a crime to value and respect someone others dislike? God forbid we just enjoy, like, and understand that everything has a right to exist.

😎Why is outrage free, but appreciation requires permission? We should be free to value who we want, like what we want, and recognize that all of it is part of the cosmic spin. 🌀✨

82 years ago today Looney Tunes released a satire on mid-century pop culture (or...cumming?), it features a rooster, pantomiming Frank Sinatra, and lots of swooning hens. The short is funny, visually inventive & ends with Porky having a 'coming out' moment.

Physics has been in stagnation since ~1973 — and we’re repeating the 20-year freeze after Dirac’s QED in 1928.
Eric Weinstein:
“Subtract the screens (phones, TVs) and style changes… 1973 vs 2023 looks almost identical. The real leaps stopped long ago — 1952 thermonuclear test (IV Mike) was closer to 1902 powered flight than we are to 1952.”
Shelter Island 1947 fixed the 20-year stall with one “boneheaded” mass error.
Weinstein says we’re in another one now: no fundamental breakthroughs in physics, energy, or materials — just screens and aesthetics masking the freeze.
Do you feel this stagnation in daily life?
What everyday thing makes you think we’re still basically living in 1973 with better phones?

In 1976, Joe Cocker performed as SNL's musical guest but surprised the live audience when John Belushi came out to duet as his famous SNL impersonation of him 🔥😂 so good
