@mosquitobatman It's in Parashara Smriti 4.27–28. Manu have more veil things to suggest for women which justifies what the orignal post ment but it(manu) didn't evolve to put widows into pyer in that stage. Honestly speaking from the historical context.

The top part of the caste system do this to retain status and power. They make sure everyone falls in line. Overtime it bcam normal & people at the bottom forgot to question it.

You misunderstood the profit part here. For caste system the profit is Power, authority, Social capital, opportunity and resources.

The caste system upholds the hierarchy and by exploiting that hierarchy it gains benifits(profit) is Exactly what a tyrant, greedy corporation would or will do. That's how this anology works. The anology isn't about a good corporation.
