Nineteen-year-old second-year Senator Harmon Killebrew hit his first major league home run at Griffith Stadium in Washington, DC on this date in 1955.

He hit 573 over his 22-year Hall of Fame career, second only to Babe Ruth in American League history at the time of his retirement in 1975. It was the most by an American League right-hander until Alex Rodriguez* surpassed him in 2009.
