I don’t believe in the “lesser of the evils.”

Evil doesn’t improve by comparison. The risk is the slow normalisation of it.

“The end justifies the means” thinking has polished language — “noble cause corruption” or “moral relativism”.

But once harm is justified in the name of a created “greater good,” we haven’t chosen a lesser evil — we’ve just rebranded it in our minds.

I’ve watched too many good people erode their values, one small decision at a time.

Values are easy to talk about — and devastatingly easy to lose.

I was lucky to be raised by a father who saw no ambiguity in what was right or wrong. The lines were clear — and he lived them. That moral clarity shaped me. It has also meant I’m unapologetically “extreme” about values.

And yes, it has cost me.

I have walked away from major contracts, large funding offers, and “prestigious” partnerships because they didn’t pass the values test. They required capitulation. Every time, there was a financial cost, but every time, I kept my integrity — and it has always seen me right.

If initial negotiations are fraught. Walk away. You don’t have to say yes to everyone who comes waving a big cheque book. It’s okay to say no. Do your due diligence and listen to your internal compass.

In our sector, I’ve seen what happens when people forget who they were there to serve. They shift from community to personal ambition; from service to self-to building empires that don’t serve community needs.

My position is not complicated: values must drive every decision — if I ever trade community for personal ambition, I should not be in this work.

I would rather lose funding than lose my compass.

Wow. Price, like Trump setting herself up as some kind of hero to the nation-because she silenced the voices of our most vulnerable Indigenous Australians.

This quote:

The culture blindness rhetoric of Price is fundamentally steeped in racism-in this idea that if you simply recognise cultural difference, then you are “dividing us by race”.

It’s the most dangerous form of racism because it presents itself as if racism isn’t even happening.-“we are all Australians together; we are all the same-stop “dividing us’”

We are not all the same and that’s a good thing. It’s our diversity that this country has been built on. It has led to our economic strength; our kindness and evolution.

It’s easy to buy into-Hansen did it first; Trump is now doing it at a level that is horrific to watch. What it really argues is a pro assimilation, nationalist argument- a white supremist, utopian ideology and aspiration.

What is happening in America, started with Trumps insidious “reject difference” ideology until it became normalised. He then positioned himself as the only one you can trust to rid us of the difference that is “dividing us”

Because; different is bad.
Same is the only “good”.

Difference has now become -anyone who disagrees with Trump-thats the slide into authoritarianism.

An unidentified common enemy gets created that doesn’t look like that aspiration; doesn’t sound and act like this invisible US.

And the “Us” is always hard-working, always patriotic and then “they” are the opposite of that. This means difference is “anti Australian”; anti white; “unpatriotic”: and reject “Australian values”.

People who are different are stealing what you don’t have because they all got there because of some advantage difference gave them over you.

So every marginalised group in essence becomes “the threat”.

There is a reason great leaders who run thriving economies and democracies don’t speak like Price.

It’s because not embracing difference ensures that we are much worse off economically and and in terms of kindness to each other.

Watch what hatred of difference is doing in the US. They are now fighting a war “within”. Encouraged to turn on and hate each other. Political violence is now at its highest ever levels.

Because the “enemy” is anyone who rejects far right extremism. Anyone black or brown, on the left of politics, trans, LGBTQI, those with disabilities- and now-of course anyone Trump disagrees with.

It’s taking us back to a time we have long evolved from-for good reason.
