The polls look strong because Carney sold “standing up to Trump.” Dig one layer down and Canadians are miserable. Economy. Housing. Taxes. Gas. This is a tough country to live in right now, and we are not keeping up with the rest of the world.

That is not an opposition talking point. That is a guy who used to cheer this government telling you the PMO is running the country while Parliament sits dark.

Trade talks go down the toilet and we get no details. His own handpicked defence guy, Doug Guzman, lasted a year and walked because Ottawa’s bureaucracy is impossible. Meanwhile the Prime Minister flies to the European Parliament on Sept 16 and 17, where nobody can grill him, and Canada’s House does not even come back until the 21st.

He is a banker. He works files. He does not do politics. A politician would shame the premiers over interprovincial barriers that jack up the price of milk and everything else. A politician would force pipelines and mines through so this country actually gets rich off what it sits on.

Elbows up is a slogan. Call Parliament back. Answer for the Gordie Howe file. Answer for the trade collapse. Answer for the people who are already paying for the photo ops.

For every $1 of taxes a guest worker generates, taxpayers are covering $10 in services. This is not sustainable.

Albertans have paid into their schools, hospitals and services their whole lives. It should be there for them when they need it.

That is why Albertans are backing our referendum questions on changes to immigration. This poll shows a supermajority now want Alberta setting its own immigration levels and ensuring that guest workers contribute to the costs they incur in our health care and education systems.

Just as any Albertan would expect if they were a guest in another country.
