Labour wants farmers to build reservoirs for their farms to fight water shortages but farmers don't want to do so because of Labour's farm death tax.

This applies above £2.5m of assets and a farm reservoir can be worth almost as much.

Gavin Lane of tax Country Land & Business Association said: “You can’t do things like build reservoirs with the family farm tax hanging over your head. You’re talking about one reservoir taking up the whole of your farm tax allowance.”

Clive Bailye, a Staffordshire farmer, said: “In building a reservoir, you’re just creating a future tax bill for the next generation because you’ve increased your capital wealth".

“Any farmer building a reservoir isn’t just storing water, they are storing a tax bill.”

Labour is completely clueless about the unintended consequences of its various tax hikes. They should scrap them & say sorry.
