But in the summer of 2009, the Lord placed a call on my life I tried to outrun—through doubt, counsel, conflict, and confirmation from the local church.
“How can I find salvation?”
He told me about Jesus. I repented. I believed.
And the fear that gripped me all evening lifted.

I was in the tenth grade. She was new. I was instantly smitten.
When I asked her out, she said yes — with one condition: You have to go to church with me.
“If you know you are lost and need salvation, raise your hand.”
I couldn’t do it. I walked out pretending I was fine.
But that night, alone in my closet, I called the youth pastor.
I didn’t grow up in church, yet somehow ended up serving as a pastor. In my new Substack, I share what life was like growing up in small-town Mississippi, surrounded by faith yet far from it, and how God’s kindness eventually found me.
