I spoke with @cmkshama about her insurgent run as an independent socialist in Washington's top-two jungle primary against incumbent Democrat Adam Smith.

Kshama Sawant sees the current progressives/DSA members in Congress as making deals with establishment Dem leaders instead of fighting for working people. If she manages to pull off an upset victory, she plans to take her record of success fighting for higher minimum wage, renter protections and taxes on higher corporation in Seattle to the halls of Congress.

"I am not running to be a team player on team genocide or team billionaire or team corporate lobbyist. I am running to disrupt the politics as usual in Washington D.C.," Sawant told @Newsweek

On July 21, the Illinois State Officers Electoral Board removed independent democratic socialist, Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez, from the November congressional ballot in IL-04. This was a clear, coordinated effort by outgoing Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia to dynastically usher in his own chief of staff, Patty Garcia, hours before the primary filing deadline.

Garcia is only required to obtain 697 signatures while Sigcho-Lopez needed 10,816 valid signatures to qualify for ballot access.

The Democratic Party machine inside Chicago made their position clear to working class communities – workers desires are second to the political operatives and billionaire donors maintaining the status quo.
