I get the confusion behind trading Gonzalez for a comp pick, but the White Sox tried to develop him for 2.5 years with little success. He finally unlocked something this year and took advantage of a hitter-friendly park to get real Minor League production in a short stint before earning his MLB promotion.

Since he’s been up, the batted ball data hasn’t been great. Sure, he’s decent depth. But the max role they could find for him was a platoon 1B.

I don’t think he had as much trade value as Sox fans think he had, and the Sox (who know him better than anyone) saw more value in trading him for a draft pick than keeping him for depth purposes.

I know a lot of you disagree, but I think it makes sense.
