During the 7-Dangerous Day period from December 29 to January 4, there were 2,288 traffic collisions, leading to the loss of 284 lives, and 2,307 people were injured, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).
Motorbikes were involved in 86% of the collisions, with 39% attributed to speeding, 23% to drunk driving, and 18% to sudden lane cutting. Highways accounted for 41% of the collisions, while 33% occurred on village roads.
Kanchanaburi recorded the highest number of collisions (82) and injuries (89), whereas Bangkok reported the highest death toll of 19.
In comparison, the previous year witnessed a total of 2,440 road collisions reported between December 29, 2022, and January 4, 2023, resulting in 317 fatalities and 2,437 injuries.
