Great map by @Indian_Rivers that I found online which gives an overview of all proposed and constructed dams in the Teesta basin.

The dam that has failed is Teesta III at Chungthang, Sikkim. You can see it as No 27 in the map.

Interesting that this this a 60 metre high rock fill dam. It is on paper 'run of the river' but the storage is substantial.

It is the largest hydroelectric project in Sikkim - a whopping 1,200 Mw and it cost over Rs 14,000+ cr to build.

Let that sink in.
