“Point of Infinity” by Hiroshi Sugimoto is sublime. Feels like a monument befitting of Starfleet HQ in future San Francisco.
It’s a straightforward bike ride to Yerba Buena Island from West Oakland and Emeryville. 🚲
How can Google and Apple Maps get away with having a crowdsourced speed trap setting?
First of all, it’s not a “trap” if you’re exceeding the legal speed limit.
@buttsmeister@OakDOT@DanKalb Perhaps it doesn’t meet their “threshold,” but the other part is a cop-out. When traffic circles were installed on 8th St, OakDOT put up plenty of temporary signage to both alert and teach drivers about the changing street conditions.
@deciblast Every time I’ve encountered a different group of graffiti vandals in West Oakland, they 1) travel in packs of three, 2) drive a BMW or Lexus or hop the BART fare gates, 3) are white males. 🧐
It’s conceivable that a person (or family) riding their bike to/from Emeryville may be struck and killed here. I’ve had a few close calls myself over the years. A high-speed turn on an unnecessarily wide street augments the danger. @OakDOT
For 5+ years, the City has failed to keep bicyclists and pedestrians safe at the north end of Mandela Parkway. Vehicles block the bike lane and sidewalks 24/7. Dozens of 311 tickets and emails sent, to no avail.
@IrinaItsekson Thank you for sharing. The full Instagram video is even more astonishing. Carroll suggests the trash we’re seeing on Wood St is due to “intentional guerrilla tactics close to the election.” I have a few hundred 311 tickets from the past few years that I hope will change her mind.
@prinzrob@OakDOT It’s incredibly frustrating. Commenting was a key feature. We used it to collaborate with neighbors, share helpful context, and provide follow-up information as issues evolved. I don’t see how this benefits @OakDOT or the Oakland community.
Remember the amazing multicolored light sculpture called Undercurrent, located under the bridge over Lake Merritt Channel?
It has long since been destroyed, but it was awesome while it lasted. What’s the public accessibility of the channel pathway like these days?

@naima@stickermule Sticker Mule: For all your swastika sticker, MAGA magnet, and racist rally sign needs!
At least they got their logo right—it’s literally a jackass. 🫏
This week I was hit by a semi-truck on my bike at the intersection of 3rd & Adeline in West Oakland, one of the main entrances to Port of Oakland. Here are a few things @rrinoak, @LibbySchaaf, & bicyclists need to know about this key bicycle corridor shared w/ 18-wheelers. (1/11)
An example of online housing discourse in West Oakland. What I appreciate is how succinctly they’ve managed to summarize their misconceptions about how housing affordability works.
@debora_allen1@SFBART How is the absence of platform screen doors not a huge accessibility, safety, and (ultimately) legal issue? I’m continually reminded of this blind person’s guide cane and shoes in the tracks (!!!) at SFO.
@DarwinBondGraha Every time California Waste Solutions is in the news, it comes as no real surprise to West Oakland residents who have been putting up with their shenanigans for years.
In March 2021, California Waste Solutions (CWS) appealed the City's decision to allow 300+ housing units at the Phoenix development site down the street (8th & Pine). The reason? Because it was "incompatible" with their recycling facility operations. 1/x
