Who would MTN support tomorrow, as Nigeria squares up against South Africa? As the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana go head to head in the AFCON semifinals, MTN cannot give us total commitment. The highest they can give us is partial commitment. And even with that, their heart will be with South Africa, because home is where the heart is.

But a company like Globacom would not have divided loyalties. A conglomerate like Dangote will give us full support. And a concern like Innoson will have an unalloyed commitment to Nigeria. These firms will all be entirely for Nigeria. Believing in Nigeria. Rooting for Nigeria. And fighting for Nigeria.

This is why I have urged the 130 million Nigerians now using MTN SIM cards to have rethink. Stop sending almost $10 million to South Africa daily. Make calls with Glo. Build your homes with Dangote cement. Drive to work and play with an Innoson. Wear made-in-Nigeria clothes, by Nigerian designers, with Nigerian fabrics. That is how both the Naira and our Super Eagles can win.
