Why is Twitter banned in Tanzania?

X is banned in Tanzania because @elonmusk has chosen to put human lives and human rights above profit and market access.

Meta remains active in Tanzania because it has made its choice loud and clear: silence critics and activists at the behest of a brutal authoritarian regime. @MariaSTsehai and I are among its victims.

Once you are flagged by the Samia Suluhu regime, you can be certain that Meta will eventually deplatform you. It does not matter who you are, how important your work is to the people, or whether the people you represent have any other way to make their voices heard. It does not matter if your voice reaches millions.

What matters, apparently, is market access and profit.

The world does not appreciate Elon Musk and X enough. This man would literally rather have X banned from an entire country than allow the platform to become an instrument of oppression for an authoritarian government.

That is a principle worth recognizing.
