That's the challenge with an election defeat. It can be:
1. voters don't like us, and we need to change
2. voters don't like us, and we need to convince them
3. voters don't like us, let opponents be in charge, voters will come around

@lxeagle17 To be fair, after the first SARS a lot of East Asian countries moved to some form of "forever masking" (on public transit, if sick...) all the way to 2020. It wasn't unthinkable in 2020/2021 that COVID would bring the same to the US, especially as it mutates a lot more
