The integration of the National ID Card (NID) is now LIVE in the Nagarik App!
This much-anticipated feature continues to simplify and enhance the digital governance experience in Nepal. Starting from Magh 1, 2080 (January 14, 2024), the Government of Nepal has mandated the use of the National Identity Card (NID) for banking and financial services. This directive was officially published in the Nepal Gazette on Ashadh 10, 2081 (२०८१ असार १० गते प्रकाशित नेपाल राजपत्र). In line with this, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has instructed all banks and financial institutions to open accounts strictly based on the National ID number.
The update is now available for both Android iOS users. This milestone is a significant step forward in Nepal’s GovTech initiatives, promoting convenience, efficiency, and accessibility in public service delivery.

@nagarikapp .
The integrated digital license includes a QR code, allowing for digital payments on the spot when traffic police issue a ticket for traffic rule violations.
This initiative solves the problem caused by delays in printing driving licenses and eliminates the hassle of paying fines for traffic rule violations.

Nepal Government Might Unblock TikTok in Nepal !
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MOCIT) is now preparing to unblock TikTok.
TikTok has been relentless in its efforts to re-enter the Nepalese market. They've sent multiple request letters to the Government of Nepal, promising to protect user privacy and data, and have committed to complying with all the rules and policies set by the Government of Nepal.
Almost 10 months ago, TikTok was banned in Nepal. But now, things might be changing! Are you excited for TikTok's potential return, or do you have concerns?

Can Nepal become the next tech hub of Asia?
The Government of Nepal has made a bold declaration in Budget for FY 2081/82 (2024/25), designating the next decade as the "Information Technology Decade." This ambitious initiative aims to leverage IT for socio-economic transformation and position Nepal as a global IT hub. But can Nepal truly become the next tech hub of Asia?
There are several factors that make this vision promising:
1. Growing tech ecosystem: Nepal's IT sector has been expanding rapidly in recent years, with numerous startups and established companies emerging in Kathmandu and other major cities.
2. Competitive cost of living: Compared to many other Asian tech hubs, Nepal offers a significantly lower cost of living, making it attractive for both businesses and individual professionals.
3. Natural beauty and cultural richness: Nepal's breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage provide a unique backdrop that could appeal to digital nomads and remote workers seeking inspiration and work-life balance.
4. Government support: The declaration of an "IT Decade" signals strong governmental backing for the tech sector, which could lead to favorable policies and infrastructure development.
5. Strategic location: Situated between India and China, Nepal could potentially leverage its position to become a bridge between these two tech giants.
However, we need to change the global perception of Nepal primarily as a player in the global tech scene first, then as a tourist destination.
What are your thoughts on Nepal's potential to become a prominent tech hub in Asia? Can it transform into a thriving center for digital nomads, freelancers, and tech innovators? Or are there too many obstacles to overcome?

Let's understand App Removals or Apps disappearing from Google Play Store!
The recent removal of eSewa from Google Play Store highlights a common occurrence in the tech world. Remember, even Google's own Podcast app was temporarily removed in 2020 due to a technical glitch!
Key points to understand:
1️⃣ App removals are often temporary processes, not permanent problems.
2️⃣ They can happen due to policy changes, technical issues, or regulatory matters.
3️⃣ Countries like Nepal, without direct Google offices, face unique challenges in quick resolution. Without a local Google office or direct communication channels, resolving issues can be a time-consuming process.
4️⃣ This isn't unique to us - it's a global challenge for emerging tech ecosystems.
So let's practice digital patience, approach these situations with understanding, support our local tech innovators, and advocate for better digital infrastructure.
Disclaimer: This post is not promotional content for eSewa or any other company. As a former organizer of Google Developer communities and participant in various Google in-office programs, I'm sharing my personal experiences and insights to help our tech community understand these issues.
I recently had a concerning experience with Nepal Telecom that I feel compelled to share. When my monthly data package expired, I was shocked to know that over NPR 1000 had been deducted from my main balance in just few hours of usage. What's particularly alarming is that I received no notification about these charges.
The only alert I got was a standard message saying I had consumed 80% of my data package. There was no warning about potential extra charges or usage.
This isn't just about the money - it's about transparency. I've since learned that other Nepal Telecom users have faced similar issues. It seems to be a systemic problem that needs addressing.
Customers deserve clear communication about their usage and potential charges. Deducting such a substantial amount without proper notification is unacceptable.
So I'm reaching out to @Hello_MoCIT@hello_sarkar@ndcl_nt to investigate this matter.
If you've experienced a similar issue, please share your story.

Today marks 10 years since I joined सरकारी जागीर as a ‘civil servant’. I feel proud and grateful to have this chance to serve my country.
Despite the negative image of government officials as ‘corrupt and lazy’, I’ve tried to remain as honest and hardworking as possible, and ‘serve’ the nation with dedication.
I am grateful for the opportunity to ‘make a difference in the lives of common Nepalis’ through various positions I’ve held so far at various government organizations. #10Years #CivilServant
