Today is National Voter Regitration Day! Since DAR is a non-political organization, volunteering for a candidate's campaign does not count as Service to America. However, volunteering as a poll worker does count towards Service to America!
The Davidson Co. Regents' Council held a wonderful Flag Day at the grave of Capt. William Driver's this week. Driver was gifted an enormous American flag by his mother, which he nicknamed "Old Glory." He is credited with coining that nickname for the U.S. flag.
Happy Memorial Day! We are in grateful rembrance of those who served our country. We are proud to share these images of the grave of patriot Abram Alexander, whose grave was cleaned by one of our members last week. We hope someone turns in a DAR application for him one day.
Teachers deserve our appreciation year-round for all they do to help our students learn, grow, & succeed. But this week especially, we're celebrating & thanking our teachers for their hard work & dedication to education.
Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek!

#OnThisDay in 1837, #Michigan entered the Union as the 26th state! The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 helped put Michigan on the path to statehood, but the resolution of the Toledo War sealed the deal.

This is so cool! (Hot?) Remember that your DAR volunteerism can be simple. You can bake a pie for someone in need. Don't forget to log your time in Service to America as you go. ❤️🥧 #NationalPieDay
Born enslaved, Anna Julia Cooper earned a masters in math from Oberlin 1887 & PhD from Sorbonne. Her 1892 book championed women’s rights. “The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class-it is the cause of human kind, the very birthright of humanity”
Have a blessed #MLKDay2024! Many spend this day volunteering. There is so much we can do as Daughters, even in poor weather! We can knit or sew for someone in need, prepare a meal for someone who is without power, or shovel a walk for an elderly neighbor.
