I am 100% for the #NaturalRight to self-defense. The #2A protects the #Right to own and to carry the tools of self-defense against government interference.

I am 100% for the 2A as it was written with the meanings of the words being what the were at its authoring.

“A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State”: This is the reason for the Right. It does not describe or limit the Right.

“Well-regulated”: A well-regulated militia was drilled, trained, and equipped. “Regulated”, in that time and in that context, did not mean “subject to a bunch of rules and regulations”.

“The Right of the People”: This means that the Right belongs exclusively to each and every individual person, not to the State, not to the militia, not to Congress, not to the president, and not to judges.

“Keep and bear Arms”: Keep means to own. Bear means to carry. Arms meant the typical arms that one might own for personal defense AND also carry with him to militia service. At the writing of the 2A, that would have included any long gun available at the time, any handgun available at the time, swords, knives, clubs, etc. Today’s analogs include rifles, shotguns, handguns, clubs, knives, swords (even). The firearms would include single-shot, repeating, semi-automatic, AND fully automatic. The word arms referred to weapons that could be used in battle and, therefore, meant “weapons of war”.

“Shall not be infringed”: This means that any part of the Right covered by any of the above meanings is OFF-LIMITS to anyone in government. The slightest interference (4473s, licenses, rules about bump stocks or braces, etc.) is an infringement.

Within the words and the meanings of the 2A is an absolute Right. (Mr. Scalia, you were wrong.) Anything that is contrary to the words and the meanings of the 2A is unconstitutional. Period.
