MEU 6 has been busy this past week down in New Jersey and Pennsylvania providing on-site gear cleaning and now repairs using their new MRU. Just last week they serviced all 6 Parsippany Troy Hills Fire Districts, bringing compliance and care to their gear cleaning programs.
We clean thousands of sets of turnout gear every month, so as you’d imagine we see all different types of gear and equipment. We wanted to showcase the Dräger PSS 7000 solely because of how easy it is to decon.

In this clip from Live at FDIC, Education Director David Rhodes is joined by the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and RedLine Mobile Gear Cleaning to spotlight a groundbreaking initiative from FDIC 2025.
For the first time ever at a fire service event, RedLine Mobile Gear Cleaning cleaned and stored close to 800 sets of turnout gear on site for H.O.T. students using Mobile Extraction Units®. Whether it was needed for the next day of training or before heading home, firefighters got their gear back clean and ready—without the contamination following them off the training ground.

Last week, @GearRedline Cleaning conducted waste water study of brand new sets of gear. A Professor from Nichols College assisted in collecting water samples from gear to test for PFAS levels.
Recruits will now wear the gear through the academy and the gear will be retested.
Cancer is a scourge in the fire service. We must do everything we can to ensure the families of those who die due to occupational cancer get the line-of-duty benefits they deserve.
If a FF doesn’t clean their turnout gear, and other items of their ensemble, they risk exposure to toxic chemicals, reduced protection, and potential spread of contaminants - it’s that simple….
The national Institute for occupational safety and health found that firefighters had a 9% higher risk of developing cancer and a 14% higher risk of dying from cancer compared to the general population.
