El mundo enfrenta una crisis de aprendizaje silenciosa pero grave. Las causas son conocidas: la subinversión en la profesión docente, una infraestructura deficiente, la escasez de materiales, el tiempo de instrucción limitado, la enseñanza impartida en idiomas que los niños no hablan en casa y, de manera más general, la fragilidad de los sistemas educativos.
Pero hay una causa que destaca y que rara vez se nombra. En muchos países, los docentes no están utilizando los métodos adecuados para enseñar a los niños a leer con fluidez y comprensión. Las aulas siguen dependiendo de enfoques de lenguaje globales que décadas de investigación han demostrado ser ineficaces. Corregir esto no resuelve por sí solo la crisis, pero es una parte indispensable de la solución. Esto se discutió en una sesión del @cies_us -Comparative & International Education Society, en donde @benlpiper y yo presentamos un estudio sobre la Enseñanza Efectiva de la Lectura refrendado por el Panel Asesor sobre Evidencia en Educacion Global @GEEAP_
