We invite students to apply for the WSAI Summer Internship 2026. The summer internship gives students the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research, build real-world skills and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in Data Science and AI.

Eligibility:

✅Pre Final year/Sixth Semester of their Four Year (Regular/ Full time) Under Graduation (Engineering or Science).
✅Third or Pre Final year of their Five Year Dual Degree Programs with Engineering.
✅First year of their two years Post Graduation.

🔷Internship will start from April 2026.
🔷The period will be minimum 3 months to a maximum of 6 months per intern.
🔷This is an in-person summer internship and interns will get a stipend.

@iitmadras has launched the Language and Cognition Laboratory (LC-Lab) in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, an experimental linguistics lab to advance interdisciplinary, experimental research on India’s linguistic diversity.

The LC-Lab was inaugurated by Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, in the presence of Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Anindita Sahoo, Faculty Coordinator, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. The lab will explore how humans perceive, process, and produce language using techniques such as eye-tracking and reaction-time studies.

In the long term, the LC-Lab aims to contribute to human-centred, linguistically informed AI systems, working closely with the Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI). Future research will integrate neurocognitive tools including EEG and TMS.

The inauguration also featured a symposium and panel discussion titled “Language for Thought: Exploring Interdisciplinary Dimensions,” with remarks by Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, Head, @cerai_iitm, and panelists Dr. Sanjiv Patjoshi (IPS), DGP, Prof. Vijayanthi Sarma, @iitbombay, and Prof. Maria Teresa Guasti, Università degli Studi Milano-Bicocca, moderated by Prof. Sudarsan Padmanabhan, IIT Madras.

A new project, "From Principles to Practice, Responsible Al in Indian Healthcare System” was recently launched at our Conclave on AI Governance, organised by WSAI & CeRAI.

Dr. Geetha Raju, Senior Policy Analyst, CeRAI, IIT Madras, Harleen Kaur, Research Manager, Digital Futures Lab, and Dr. Gokul S Krishnan, Senior Research Scientist, CeRAI, IIT Madras, identify the challenges of AI in Indian Healthcare System and limitations of existing Framework.

A new discussion paper titled "Al Incident Reporting Framework for India" was recently launched at our Conclave on AI Governance, organised by WSAI & CeRAI.

Ravindran, Head, WSAI, CeRAI, IIT Madras, this report underlines the urgent need to develop a robust AI Incident Reporting Framework to address AI incidents in India - from Algorithmic Biases to Deepfakes and others.
