WE’RE WALKING OUT! ✊ After countless bargaining sessions that management has either delayed, pushed back, or shown up to the table empty-handed, WE’VE HAD ENOUGH! We’re taking a 2 & 1/2 day walk out to show management that we will not stand for their inadequate wage proposal!
.@Gannett still has not reached an equitable agreement with the members of @rocnewsguild. I continue to urge a resolution that benefits workers, the community and the company.
Why is @rocnewsguild fighting for AI protection in our contract? Because AI is already being used to generate (garbage) content at Gannett properties. This isn’t a far-off future concern; this dystopian news landscape is already here.
Multiple unfair labor practice charges are being filed. But: We have no trust Gannett will ever bargain fairly, and so we’re not going to wait for them to.
The strike is over at midnight. We’re taking the fight into the newsroom. It’s not over.
So many to thank for support of our union rally and will get to many later in day but a special thanks to our friends to the west, the @BuffaloGuild . Your support means so much to us.
Meet Genae Shields who graduated from RIT in 2022, started as an intern and was hired that summer. She is the business and development impact reporter the Democrat and Chronicle. Psst she is a yoga enthusiast @genaebri
We are calling on all Rochester unionists and community allies to stand in solidarity with the @rocnewsguild this Wednesday at 5pm. If the strike continues, we'll be back every week for growing rallies. @MCCFacultyAssoc @AFSCMECouncil66@IAFF1071 @FSW_Rochester @Laborers435
Monday was another great day on the @rocnewsguild picket line. We broke down early to take in totality and avoid the traffic. Thanks to all the supporters who joined us and sorry we missed some folks. Today we bargaining in the a.m. so we'll be at it again from 1-4 pm. #roc
Dear Rochester community: If you receive calls or inquiries from individuals saying they are from the @DandC and asking for info to prepare for eclipse stories, ask whether they are members of the @rocnewsguild. If not, then please give them nothing.
We support @rocnewsguild as they strike and shut down @DandC! Local journalism plays a vital part of our community and as companies like Gannett destroy it for profit, we can see the results every day. Join them on the picket line Sunday 4/7 from 9am-5pm at 245 East Main St.
Day 2 of @DandC journalists striking for #faircontract. Please consider donating to our strike fund or share with a friend.

Support local journalism!
@rocnewsguild
Local journalism is essential and the journalists at @DandC are invaluable to our local community. I stand with workers in their fight for fair wages and a contract that properly values the work they do. #UnionStrong ✊🏾
Rochester needs local journalists, and our local journalists need our support.
Proud to join @rocnewsguild and @CWADistrict1 today in their fight for a fair contract w/ Gannett.
Rochester needs journalists.
@DandC needs journalists.
We’re on strike because @Gannett somehow found funds to give CEO Mike Reed a 14% raise to $3.9M — but won’t even agree to $1/hr more for its frontline journalists.
Corporate greed is killing our newsroom. @rocnewsguild ✊
Update: our strike begins at 12:01 am Saturday and doesn’t end until @Gannett agrees to a contract that appropriately values its journalists.
Donations to our strike fund will help sustain our members while we fight for what we deserve. https://t.co/9duYeYchsF
