I must make special mention of Kaduna, where I commissioned their CNG mass transit programme under Governor Uba Sani @ubasanius last year.

100 CNG-powered buses are providing free transportation on major routes across the State. In their first year of operation alone, the buses carried about 3.2 million passengers, saving commuters more than ₦3.5 billion in transport costs.

This is more of what we need to see at the subnational level.

An implementation committee for the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme was subsequently established under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum @NGFSecretariat, chaired by the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq @RealAARahman.

I am aware of the considerable work already underway by the committee, PI-CNG & EV, the States, and other critical stakeholders to identify priority transport corridors, determine appropriate interventions, and put the necessary arrangements in place.

This work has become even more urgent in the face of the current global energy crisis.

Tinubu to governors: Scale up CNG transport — global energy disruptions putting pressure on petrol prices

President Bola Tinubu has told governors across the country to scale up the CNG-powered public transport, saying the initiative is already reducing transport burden on Nigerians in different states.
