@simonmlewis I find the idea of ultra Catholic schools dangerous. They'd target poor areas, DEIS schools. Imagine being staff in a school with an old Ireland Catholic grip. Horrendous
@DrMaireadDB@simonmlewis If public schools in Ireland weren't church controlled and treated all children equally (like they do in most other western countries) Educate Together wouldn't have to exist.
@HoopsVGM@RGreywind When we got Alolan and then Galarian Meowth I was convinced that Meowth was the new Eevee of regional forms and that we were bound to get a Hisuian/Paldean Meowth. Could be a cool vid idea for you though. What if every region had a regional Meowth?
@Science4Christ@simonmlewis Asking people to teach something they believe is BS as passionately as they teach things they know is true is ridiculous. Attempting to link that to professionalism doesn't land as an insult either.
If the government canโt commit to 15% of schools not being under religious control, itโs embarrassing for a country that describes itself as a secular republic. https://t.co/UxE0xH2yI3
"As a mother and advocate for fact-based education, I believe it's crucial to teach children accurate information," completely ignoring that 97% of schools' ethos is not based on fact but on faith. https://t.co/e2zni541FS
@simonmlewis If that can happen in one school, especially a secondary school, it could happen to any school. There should be industrial action taken over this.
@johnnyf67@simonmlewis You have to keep in mind that a special class has 3 adults and 6 children. In many special classes the children might require 1:1 or honestly 2:1. None of those kids are getting that. Nevermind therapy access. Many kids in special classes require greater supports than available
@johnnyf67@simonmlewis Not necessarily. It depends on the children in question and the supports to those children available. Hence why a one size fits all approach to special classes doesn't work. In one case my school was advised to simply try limited inclusion with that child's other 5 classmates.
@johnnyf67@simonmlewis They also advise schools. Yes schools can ignore advice given but they'd need a pretty good reason to ignore advice from the NCSE.
@CSSPA4@simonmlewis The door on values swings both ways. I think you'll find most teachers reflect the majority of Irish society. Meaning their values would quite often be at odds with the Catholic church's values. Removing FF from the school day would benefit devout Catholics
@CSSPA4@simonmlewis Segregation of children is not the answer. All children would be better off receiving faith formation outside the school day. Preferably by someone who doesn't have to pretend to be religious. The core mission of teachers is to teach, not to evangelise
