I have just returned from 12 hours round trip to spend 2.5 hours at Michaela... WOW - what I witnessed today was incredible; the focus, the dedication, the sense of purpose and the sheer joy from every student at being there. Thank you @Miss_Snuffy - it was nice meeting you
One of the biggest factors in a child achieving is teachers and guardians expecting that they can and pushing for it.
The role of a leader is to ensure school, guardians and students are regularly reminded of their responsibility to keep pushing.
I don't understand how anyone can see this and think that Michaela and @Miss_Snuffy are not doing right by their students. Keep up the excellent work, and I will forever be in awe of you and your school.
Weekly CPD training at Michaela isnโt on teaching/learning in the main.
It is on ethos and culture, which I lead, although sometimes given by another member of staff.
Mainly about trying to get staff to think outside the box on culture issues.
This is what drives our success
#georgaphy#edutwitter Hello, Fellow Geographers. Does anyone use the area around the Etihad Stadium for their Urban Regeneration case study for AQA GCSE? If so, I would appreciate any insights you have regarding teaching this, etc. and using it for fieldwork. Thank you greatly.
@Miss_Snuffy I have no problem with the idea of some form of compulsory service for children or even young adults, providing that there is an option that is not military-based for those who object to militarisation, and that they benefit from it in some way; it is not just 'free labour.'
@ARCpricealex It is also insulting - if you are giving a kid a detention, then call it what it is - a detention. Giving them a detention and then insulting their intelligence by saying, 'Oh it's not actually a detention' is disrespectful
@MrsGwinnett The issue is that there is some truth to that poor teaching causes disruption... but it is a minimal truth and, over the years, was stretched to the point where SLTs all over the country responded to behaviour concerns with 'perhaps your teaching needs to improve'. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@Strickomaster My concern is that it will encourage other students who do currently attend school to start refusing because they think they will be offered this as an alternative (they may be wrong, but some students will see it this way)
@rid3_b@m_chiles What does that mean? What has this got to do with recruitment and retention? Also, this would only work effectively if done on a whole school level, and it is one way but not the only one.
@rid3_b@m_chiles If you are saying you can't do it with every year group at once, then start with year 7 and build it up - it is not perfect, but sometimes perfection is the enemy of good. Still a better option than just accepting it can't be done and continuing with the status quo.
@MrLGeo start at the underlying concepts: insolation, why temperature decreases with altitude, evaporation and condensation forming clouds, high and low-pressure areas. Only when they understand all of that do you bring it all together into the GAC which I always draw under visualiser
Does anyone have any ideas on how to add cultural capital to students studying Geography? Any contacts, e.g. guest speakers etc would be appreciated as well as ideas of places in the North-West that we could visit etc. Retweets would be greatly appreciated.
