@DavidDack The marathon. The number of runners who enter one without any or proper training is just nuts. The number of runners who have to walk is equally crazy. Walking in a race is fine, as long as you don't really have to and you actually planned it. I walk through each station.
@claystaggs Have you considered doing a FTHr/FTPa Test to anchor your pace and hr zones? Your heart rate looks like it has a huge decoupling rate. Read up on both. My guess from the hr graph is that you're going way too hard.
@DavidDack The sad thing is, some "influencers" and elitists are so great at what they do that they actually convince folks that they're too slow, too old, too fat, etc. to start.
@tim_roozendaal "Increase by 1% and see if this is better. After a month or so, add another 1%. Rinse and repeat. When it becomes worse, go back to what worked best." That's what Daniels said to me in a lecture. The 180-rule is the best example of "Daniels misinterpreted".
@Brady_H The comments were arrogant and elitist, so I just scolled on. Those negative comments come easy in your 20s, 30s, and 40s. Once you're past 55, the game changes completely, and this guy is doing fine. Let's wait for the snobs do better once they're his age.
@DavidDack Tell me you're a non-runner without telling me you're a non-runner:
"I ran a marathon on Sunday!"
"Wow! How long did you take?"
"Ah, just 29:45."
"Ah yeah, THAT kind of marathon!" π

I buy shoes with the least protection. I guess you call this minimalist. I also run in them until you don't know which one is left/right. I have run 3500 miles in a pair of Nike Free 3.0, but around 3k miles is standard. No, I'm not joking.
@JerimiahLee When I started, I had to walk in Z2. Now, I can actually run in Z1 and wish I had a Z0. Just keep inside the zone, even if it means you need to walk. It will pay off; it just takes quite a long time.
@DavidDack Properly raced, any distance is hard and tells you the truth pretty soon. Coming from a 1600m background, youβll find the 5k relatively painless at max effort. In the 1600m, pain become unbearable by lap 2. Just watch how many go directly to the ground after the finish line.
@ykr3bz@Brady_H@HankFrank Most are a bit on the optimistic side, I find. However, I use HRV4Training, and the lactate threshold pace always seemed to be on spot for me.
@max_stoneking On X, people love to complain about "influencers". Also on X, serious people give "influencers" the attention they want. That's Catch-22 and darn stupid.
@Not_Gilmore He must have learned English very early on for such an impressive pronunciation pattern and command. You can tell he actually thinks in English when he speaks it. It's a British variant with some north-American influence and very little influence from his native language.
