Mixed practice vet - enjoys livestock medicine & surgery. Keen to help improve Australian & NZ agriculture . Also enjoy road cycling, AFL, cricket & tennis.
@Dynamic_Ag@Agrivetbusiness I believe the the Coopers commercial 10 strain is only vaccine on the market. Sydney uni that we’re doing flock/farm strain specific vaccines awaiting recertification from APVMA
@SamHaeusler Injectable treatments are sometimes not enough to correct deficiency. May need feed or water or rumen boluses to manage and prevent disease/production loss/repro failure
@SamHaeusler Definitley product with its place. I like to have evidence its required I.e. stock have a deficiency or are marginal for trace elements (copper, zinc, selenium and manganese). Need to check all age groups/production stages each year. Blood test ok. Liver biopsy & blood test best
Fair to say it’s been a while since I emptied the #CamperdownVetCentreRainGauge and in that time Hughy has well and truly sent it down.
Hope everyone can hang in there for the next few days of forecasted deluge🌧☔️🌧☔️
@Agrivetbusiness@paradooprime@Dynamic_Ag@MoorallaMerino@Marni_Luhrs Many complex biological processes involved with trace elements I guess. Definitely think creating awareness & discussions around role of trace events in animal health & production is a good thing
@MoorallaMerino@Marni_Luhrs Test your flocks trace mineral status first. Across multiple age groups and production stages. Blood tests useful information but liver biopsy good standard (especially copper). Agree with @Kiaoramerino that dose in these products may not be high enough or even required in 💉
@KennedyCreek1 I don’t think anyone in the industry is against their use. Just differing opinions on how to make them available. I get frustrated when I am just contacted for the drugs I have not tye knowledge I have to share. Think clients underestimate our passion to help them
@KennedyCreek1 Don’t think as a profession we can afford to be seen as hindering availability of analgesics to livestock. Just have to look at other opportunities as vets to be involved. In NZ farmers can obtain local for use in calf disbudding. Requires annual compliance& training visit by vet
#AgTwitter#AgChatOz What’s the industry consensus on formulating an EBV or similar for beef bull breeding longevity? Could it be as simple as monitoring NLIS database for when bulls are slaughtered and seeking owner feedback on reason 4 sale?
