@mpedrialeOUB329 Hi I think the slogans may come across a bit vague, something relating to young people’s mental health could be effective as that is your focus
@LT_B329@lynnrobertscc Great work. This is a really key topic at the moment. I know many teachers who have left or are planning to. The workload is too much the salary doesn’t match it.
Hi all, please read my call to action which is encouraging individuals to educate themselves on how to identify false information on social media. Any feedback welcome. Thank you #B329LeadershipChallenge
What does everyone think about social media companies implementing strategies to detect and delete false information on their platforms? Is this welcomed or does it suggest censorship/restricting free speech? #b329leadershipchallenge
@IanB329 @B329Leadership The trouble is it’s only low paid insecure work that offers flexible working. And so many mothers and family carers are stuck doing this with no way to advance. Reject zero hours and More companies need to adopt flexible working hours.
@chrisrees222 @GerardC49595414 I agree strongly. I saw in the news that Afghan women students were being married off to ease family poverty. Sad. Could be a very interesting leadership challenge
@LouiseMaskrey@OUMikeLeach Fortunately I am not in this position YET as I have a small amount of savings keeping me afloat. With rent and bills, food and a family to support etc, my income is no longer enough and I am eating through my savings. It’s easy to see how people get in this position.
@B329Leadership#b329Chat A3. I was fortunate to join a group where all four of us were eager to participate, and we had great discussions including a Teams meeting. However, due to time constraints I have decided to go it alone, I am aware I’ll be losing out on valuable insight from others.
@B329Leadership@Barry_Verdin#b329Chat A1. Hi, my names Georgia and I’m in my final year of studying. I am enjoying reading about the different approaches leaders can take, specifically i learnt a lot from solutions to Susan’s leadership dilemmas
In #week15 I learnt about the four faces of power and resistance. Both leaders and employees can recognise experiences they’ve had that falls into one of these categories. Looking to the future it will be useful to preempt responses to resistance leadership #oub329
In #week14 I learnt about how place-based leadership can involve many organisations and local communities who have a vested interest in the area they live and work in, this is true especially for local authorities #b329leadershipchallenge
@alex_henly1 @gricedOU@B329Leadership That’s a good point about how organisations may focus solely on their own aims. Two companies for example that may have different cultures, values and goals can clash with others that they are meant to collaborate with, as they are ultimately focused on their own “win” outcome.
In #week12 I learnt that positive-sum approaches to leadership is an ideal scenario, and involves strategic collaboration where all parties must be equally invested in the outcome. Competition or different motivations can disrupt this #oub329
@LouiseMaskrey@OUMikeLeach Yes and I think too often leaders jump to the defensive, when listening and coming to a solution together may be the best outcome
In #wk11 I learnt that dissent is a difficult situation for both leaders and employees, who are aware that confrontation may ensue. If it is constructive, then both parties can work together to achieve a win/win outcome. But it isn’t solely up to leaders to resolve #oub329
@LouiseAbson @kristina_risley That’s an interesting connection, I too thought back to populism and charismatic leaders when reading about how leaders can influence followers in week 10
In #week10 I learnt about the relationship between leaders and followers, and how it is a two-way street. Followers have the ability to influence leaders through accountability and strength in numbers. Leaders should build connections and instil confidence to be effective #oub329
In #week9 I learnt the different ways collaboration can be encouraged, including offering signals and using body language. This is something I’ve not thought of before and will definitely be more aware of going forward #OUB329
@EllyBallB329@OUMikeLeach I found myself agreeing with most of the statements, as I was picturing a specific role I once had. But now once I think of different scenarios, the activity might result in a different outcome.
