We just spent hours in a Nairobi traffic jam, simply because impatient and selfish drivers were overlapping and choking the lanes. There's an unpopular theory on this. The day you come to an African country, and find the motorists have discipline and can self-organise not to jam up the already narrow streets, that country will be ready for economic take-off. Because that structured and clever system-flow mindset necessary for creating wealth will have taken root. The craziness that comes from this overlapping and clambering over pavements, tells you the country isn't ready yet. It's not ripe. It will remain economically backward
