Take a bow, Bob. In 2016 when Republicans controlled the Washington state Senate and I was Chair of the Commerce Committee, WA ranked as one of the best places in the country to do business. Thanks to Gov Bob Ferguson and friends, Washington now ranks almost last. 🇺🇸
🧵 Something unusual is happening in Washington State that most voters don't know about yet. Five of nine seats on the Supreme Court are on the ballot this November.

Public Records request shows the income tax wasn't legislation. It was a lawsuit disguised as a bill — designed by the AG's office, for the legislature, against the voters.
1. THE REAL GOAL: Overturn the income tax ban to enable a BROAD progressive income tax
"the overall legislative goals, it seems to me, are to have our Supreme Court overturn Culliton v. Chase."
— AGO Senior Counsel Chuck Zalesky, Jan. 19 email
2. THEY SCHEMED TO BLOCK VOTERS FROM HAVING A SAY
"I did not see an emergency clause... Without one, someone could try to subject the bill to a referendum."
— Solicitor General Noah Purcell, Dec. 11 email
3. THE AG'S OFFICE ACTIVELY COLLUDED TO HELP DEFEAT RATHER THAN DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION
"The Attorney General's role is to defend the constitution, not help the legislature find ways to violate it."
— Jackson Maynard, Citizen Action Defense Fund
4. THEY ADMITTED THE TAX WAS PROBABLY ILLEGAL — AND DID IT ANYWAY
"the proposed tax would fall squarely within the type of taxes that our Supreme Court has invalidated"
— AGO memo, Dec. 11
The AG's own lawyers warned Ferguson the tax violated the Constitution.
5. THE AG OFFICE ADVISED SCRUBBING PRARTS OF THE BILL TO HIDE THE TRUE TARGET
"the better course is to eliminate it (the marriage penalty) so that the case can focus on Culliton"
— Senior AAG Dan Jensen, Jan. 21 email

The income tax is coming for you
Olympia doesn’t need no stinking constitution….

The WA income tax is now law! Whether it stands or falls will be entirely up to the Washington State Supreme Court. YOU can decide who sits on that Supreme Court in the November election.
The LEGAL case on its merit is a slam dunk. You can expect @robmckenna to make an excellent argument. Case law and the State constitution, and common sense, all clearly say this law is unconstitutional.
But, as we saw with the capital gains income tax being decided as an "excise" tax (when it clearly is an income tax), it all depends upon whom voters choose to elect to the Washington State Supreme Court.
Did you know that neither judge that has been appointed to the Supreme Court by @GovBobFerguson has any experience as a judge at all? But they do have donation history to either his campaign, or they've worked directly for him when he was AG. It sounds too corrupt to be true, but it's true.

Duke's last four losses:
Led by 14 against Houston in the Final Four, lost
Led by 17 against Texas Tech, lost
Led by 13 against UNC, lost
Led by 19 against UConn in the Elite 8, lost
They only lost 4 games in a year, but all of them were from blown leads. Worst way to go out.
