@elonmusk@Polymarket Thats like saying California and New York should separate. They'd be better off, dont have to contribute extra federal taxes to hold up the rest of the country right? But theres lots of good reasons they dont. California doesnt "need" the rest of the US under your logic

@anticuckleague@guyfelicella This/its complicated. Making a bot farm is easy now, so politically charged people are are making them especially close to elections. But primarily its algorithmic responses to user behavior. X tends to do that. It increases engagement. Thats... what social media is all about
@dadfullcustody@LLCBCer@Dave_Eby BTW this is an economically sound thing to do. Parents can work, providing value to the economy without worry. More people would use those services making the sector more robust and reliable. Parts of Europe do this already.
@dadfullcustody@LLCBCer@Dave_Eby They use tax shelters. RRSPs, TFSAs, and often limited corporations of some kind. The effective tax rate often ends up lower than people making less who cant afford accounting, the admin burdens of corporate ownership, and or are not able to contribute to their tax shelters.
@dadfullcustody@LLCBCer@Dave_Eby Well, I did well in math, and am a business admin by trade and education. Yes you could argue lower taxes for those at the bottom does the same, to a certain degree. At the very bottom no. The other issue is people at these higher tax brackets dont ever pay that rate.
@dadfullcustody@LLCBCer Well a surprising amount of people with jobs do. I think you should ask yourself what would happen to the economy if we didnt have food banks. Didnt have Medicare. Didnt have properly functioning roads and transit options.
@bellatordave No its not relative to your hours of work, its relative to your incomes. Whether that takes 60 hours or 20 hours is irrelevant to this legislation. I think redistribution of wealth is what this is. You have your vote, I have mine. But tbh, there's a lot less of you than us so gl.
@mapleblooded@MoonlitMaven If that were true you'd have money. Are you sure you dont mean "very frugal-except all the cocaine"? Because that would explain both your brain damage and lack of money
@mrjamesports@LLCBCer 1) yes.. thats when the increase starts, not stops. It progressively increases past 1M, 5x that.
2) you mean.. 5 years ago hm what happened 5 years ago.... oh ya. That whole pandemic thing.
Tell you what. You... open a business, and then use zero dollars to invest in it
@real_true_north@LLCBCer Yes. Yes this. Except oh wait. We still rely on trickle down economics. A model that is known to not work for basically anyone except rich people. So if you look at the divide between the richest and poorest, it increases. So does the divide between middle class and very rich.
@TheChaosWeeber@LLCBCer Thats because most people who are middle to far right are uneducated. Just a bunch of sovereign citizens, but the cops are "their employees", the road is "theirs to freely travel", and fuck poor people. Even though most of them are poor too. But one day when theyre billionaires..
@bellatordave@LLCBCer Theres nothing after living "Upper Middle Class"? Well..
Maybe thats because youre living "UPPER middle class". What does that even mean to you. A non M class beamer? Only one international vacation? Some people are literally skipping meals and also work 60 hours a week.
@dadfullcustody@LLCBCer And you sir, have lost touch with reality. And what a budget is. Because plenty of family's live on less than half or in sad cases even a quarter of that.
@BillyT191@iamkennethchan So when you take someone making 70k and tax them 38%, they have barely enough to live. Maybe 5k disposable. But if you Tax someone who makes 1M, they have.. 450k of disposable income. Or roughly 90 times that of the other person. Did you ever think of that
@BillyT191@iamkennethchan Youre right. Those poor.. multi multi millionaires. So- for the avg Canadian they spend almost all their money on fixed living expenses. So for most people this is like..50k of fixed expenses. To be alive. Food, shelter, medical, car, etc. The rest is disposable income.
