@DLLS_Cowboys Doesn't matter. The common denominator that got Garrett, Kellen, McCarthy, and now soon to be Schottenheimer all fired is still present and heavily involved.
@JoeyIckes@DreamDemonVT What responsibility does a QB have to ensure the offense is set appropriately and is aware of the true blitzers? Is it zero responsibility? Is Dak simply helpless out there? You telling me he's aware of what's coming and can simply do nothing because "play call?" Give me a break.
@FootsDaKing You guys are so close to understanding why this is happening, but you stop at these "odd" occurrences where an OC suddenly stops doing a thing and you just blame said OC.
There's a common denominator throughout all these OC's that end up getting fired for the exact same outcomes
@DreamDemonVT@JoeyIckes Ranks #1 against "what," exactly? Using his legs to attack the empty area of the DL? By what metric? He sure doesn't run/scramble much. Or do you mean just his overall performance while being blitzed, on average?
Either way, he has sure been awful against it past 2 weeks. Why?
@JohnOwning I've seen this song and dance before. Three times, in fact, since 2016.
Jason Garrett - fired
Kellen Moore - fired
Mike McCarthy - fired
The QB is the common denominator. The excuses need to end.
@TheRealDA_Lee@JoeyIckes Dak plays a significant part in play designs/packages for a game during the week's preparation. You know that, right? He also plays a significant part on the field in making checks and alerting players to who they block. He also controls his own legs and mental processing.
@PRINCE_ANGELUS_@BaggettPhillip@JoeyIckes At what point is Dak not knowing where pressure will be coming from on Dak and not how he is "prepared" by a coach? He's a fucking 10+ year vet QB. You're telling me he shouldn't be expected to read defenses and understand pressure, regardless of coaching competency?
@ctgetbuckz@JoeyIckes Not last night. Not last week against Tampa Bay. This narrative that he does it often is wrong.
The OC isn't doing him many favors either, which I acknowledge. But, there's an element there that Dak is accountable for as well.
My point is that Dak isn't a victim.
@TheRealDA_Lee@JoeyIckes They were "teeing off" precisely because it was effective at such a high rate without Dak making them pay. If Dak legitimately makes the defense pay for sending so many blitzers down after down, they wouldn't blitz as often. The point is that he NEVER made them pay for it.
@JoeyIckes And all of that is besides the point that I see QBs around the league outrun LBs and DBs every week, especially against our own defense. It happens all of the time, which you also know.
@JoeyIckes It's not just about "outrunning," but you already know that. It can come in the form of subtle pocket navigation that uses a free-runner's speed against him. So many ex's of QBs that make blitzing LBs and DBs miss at the last moment and go hurling past, giving that extra 1-2 secs
@R_L_G@JoeyIckes Right. Dak stays stationary, takes hits, and throws three INTs because, in the back of his mind, he knows the GM doesn't want him to move around to open areas of defenses. He'd love to do it, of course, but in that 1 second post-snap, he remembers Jerry doesn't want him to.
@1053thefan@1053SS@rjchoppy@BobbyBeltTX Why does everyone keep pretending that unless a QB's HC/OC perfectly prepares the team for these looks, the QB is helpless? There was a time that elite QBs across the league routinely beat these blitz attempts, regardless of OC competency.
Why? They were mentally capable.
@JoeyIckes What I see is a QB who, once again, isn't reading the defense pre-snap, relative to what he knows his protection checks to be, and anticipating where the pressure is likely to come from. Then, he isn't processing where it DOES come from and moving. He's a statue.
@davehelman_ Sure, the team failed Jalen. That's true. It's also true that Jalen is accountable for not being smart enough to not play NFL football knowing he has blood clots in his lungs.
@timeforjeffrey Doesn't it seem insane that he wanted to play? At some point, the glorified and celebrated "committed tough man" act needs to be acknowledged for what it actually is - sheer stupidity.
Hurts wasn't forced to play like this. The Eagles AND Jalen are accountable for this.
