Ever since I met @sidd in our early days at Stripe, I hoped we’d one day find an idea big enough to start a company together.

That day is finally here.

After building quietly for the past year, I’m excited to officially launch @AccrualHQ, a new foundation for professional accounting 👇

Sam and the Monaco team are running circles around every other platform in the space

[Sam Blond @samdblond]

Today Monaco is launching Agent Matrix.

Monaco unleashes countless agents working together, goal seeking, with one outcome in mind: accelerate revenue growth.

If you don’t have an army of agents working 24/7 to accelerate revenue growth, you’re living in the past.

Apply for early access now.

@samdblond You guys are on fire, can't believe how quickly you're shipping! 🔥

[Cosmin Nicolaescu @getCos]

@neckelthomas Kudos to you and the team! Most financial software puts the workflow in application code and records the result in accounts. You're changing the division of labor: agents build the workflow, and accounts enforce what’s allowed.

Last month we held our inaugural Accrual Exchange.

One question kept coming up: what happens after AI works?

If it creates meaningful capacity, what does the firm do with it? What changes for clients, people, and the firm itself?

A few things that stuck with me from the day: https://t.co/O8FDwlMcAy

I’m usually skeptical of sensational headlines, and while that’s true here, there are a few findings I found genuinely interesting, matching what we’ve observed working with many of the largest firms.

The human study is 12 accountants across four month-end close tasks. More broadly, the benchmark heavily favors what frontier models are already very good at: processing huge amounts of data, searching across files, and meticulously following instructions.

And whenever models are at or near 100% on a benchmark, I start wondering whether we’re measuring general capability or a task distribution models have become particularly optimized for.

But there were two things I found much more interesting:

First, the authors themselves point out how different the benchmark is from real accounting work. In the real world, accountants have months or years of accumulated client context, can ask questions and clarify ambiguities, and generally work on problems aligned with their expertise.

This gets at something we think about a lot at Accrual: accounting is deeply contextual. The work depends on client history, prior work, firm knowledge, conversations, and data spread across many different systems.

Second, giving the accountants Claude didn’t really help. Accountants using Claude were ~15x slower than Claude alone and slightly less accurate. In several cases, Claude had the right answer and the human + AI workflow still ended up submitting the wrong one.

My takeaway:

There’s a big difference between a model being capable of doing the work and making that capability useful to an accountant. Simply giving every accountant Copilot doesn’t bridge that gap.

If the accountant still has to assemble all the context, explain the task, prompt the model, interpret the answer, and then go do the work, you haven’t actually automated much.

That’s a big part of why we built Arc the way we did. Arc starts with the context of the firm and its clients, works across the systems accountants already use, and does the work itself. The accountant reviews the finished work rather than driving the model step by step.

The models are clearly getting good enough. The interesting problem now is building the context and workflows around them.

That’s what we’re building with Arc: https://t.co/KFVkE7TTjZ

New research: we hired 12 CPAs to complete four realistic accounting tasks, then had AI models from the past few years complete the same work.

As of May 2025, accountants outperformed AI. Now they lose out to today's frontier models, which are near perfect on these tasks. 🧵

More on Arc in @AccountingToday

"Arc extends Accrual's platform across tax, audit, client accounting services and advisory. It works alongside Accrual's other dedicated workflow products to handle investigations, analyses and other assignments that span systems. Permissions, recorded actions and human review are built into the process; practitioners retain responsibility for final judgment and approval."

We built “ARC” internally for Accrual earlier this year. Every candidate and new hire raved about what it’s capable of, across the board. Inevitably someone asked the obvious question: why wouldn’t we give this to our customers, purposefully built for firms?

Seeing accountants use Arc in the few weeks brought a sense of excitement and joy similarly to early prototypes of Accrual. We can’t wait to see how you put it to work, in ways we haven’t even thought of.

Enjoy!

Every accounting firm has work that has no screen.

The investigation that crosses three systems. The client question that requires digging through old correspondence. The analysis someone assembles by hand because no workflow was ever built for it.

Meet Arc.

Give Arc a substantive job. It gathers the context, develops a plan for approval, does the work, and brings back finished work for review.

We built Arc first to run Accrual. Now we’re bringing it to accounting firms.

We started Accrual in tax. We always believed that was the beginning.

Today, we’re expanding across tax, audit, and advisory, with one intelligence platform built for the way accounting firms work.

We’ve been building for where the profession is going.

This is the way. Accept code on merit and ensure that a person takes accountability for it. Doesn’t matter if it was typed, chiseled, generated, or bit-flipped via magnetized needle on a chip.

If it’s good, it’s good. If it’s slop, it’s slop.

2) is precisely how I feel on a daily basis

[Alfred Lin @Alfred_Lin]

Two things early founders often get wrong, and should remember:

1) Building culture can feel like it's just fluff at the start. Until you start to raise capital or hire teams, and then you see how it shapes everything you do moving forward.

2) You should build a team so talented that it makes you slightly uncomfortable to be with them, because you know you are going to have to raise your game to keep up.

Big day for @AccrualHQ: we’re acquiring the team and technology behind @puzzlefin's AI Close, Cowork and Chat products, accelerating our expansion into CAS and our vision for one AI platform for the entire accounting firm.

Delighted to welcome @sashaorloff and team aboard! 🚀

As great as Sam is at hyping, Monaco exceeds it 🔥

[Sam Blond @samdblond]

Today, we're launching Monaco into General Availability.

We onboarded several hundred hypergrowth startups during our beta. The results are staggering:

The average customer added 16 percentage points to their month-over-month revenue growth rate.

The average customer tripled their monthly meeting volume.

With today's release, Monaco is now the most advanced AI sales platform in the world.

Monaco customers have an unfair competitive advantage.

@samdblond let’s goooo 🔥

[Cosmin Nicolaescu @getCos]

Europe in summer isn’t exactly famous for productivity. We did our part, for one week, at least

[Accrual @AccrualHQ]

Every few months at Accrual, we close Slack, pack up our laptops, and meet somewhere new for hackweek.

This time: France, famously the place to go in summer when you really want to get some work done. 🇫🇷

Being remote-first doesn’t mean we don’t spend meaningful time together. Quite the opposite: we’re very intentional about it, and about making that time count.

Hackweek starts with our customers: the conversations we’ve had, the pain points we keep hearing about, and the ideas we can’t stop thinking about.

Then everyone jumps in.

Engineering, product, and design, but also sales, operations, and recruiting. During hackweek, customer feedback is every Accruer’s job. We question assumptions, debate ideas, make decisions, build, break things, fix them, and ship – a LOT.

And the best parts of hackweek rarely make it into the demo.

They’re the long dinners, wrong turns through a new city, running jokes that follow us home, and discovering that the person you’ve been slacking with in recent weeks is, in fact, a really lovely human.

Working at the edge of AI-native means we're not just building AI for our clients. We're building it for our team.
Meet Arc: the Accrual Remote Coder. An agent platform we built ourselves, for ourselves.

CPAs propose changes to the tax logic they review. Account managers show up to calls already briefed. Support ships its own fixes. Titles stop mattering when the tooling removes the boundary between them.

Our teammate Jarrod wrote about what that looks like from the inside - this is the first of two posts on Arc.

Accrual has converted 100% of our pilots to production with the biggest accounting firms in the country. @getCos chatted with @pablosrugo on the latest episode of The Product Market Fit Show to share more about Accrual's growth.

From Cos: "Most AI tools in accounting quietly patch over failures. Humans fixing what the model got wrong before you see it. Running the same return multiple times and handing you the best version. We don't do that. We show firms exactly what the AI produces, return by return, side by side with what they finalized. Where we're wrong, we say why."

[Accrual @AccrualHQ]

"Writing code is one of the most satisfactory things in my life. Almost every day, if I had a choice, I would end up writing code," - @getCos, Co-Founder and CEO of Accrual.

Our team isn't all engineers, but we're bringing an engineering mindset to everything we do at Accrual: never stop building, improving, and delivering.

Many thanks to @_uncoveredmedia for capturing what we're all about.
