Memorial Day carries layers for our community.
Today, we honor the lives lost and the families who carry that weight. We recognize the legacy of Black courage that has always moved this nation forward... even when the nation didn’t always move for us.
Their sacrifice is part of our story. Their courage is part of our legacy! 🖤
Gianna’s father was taken from her six years ago today. George Floyd’s life mattered not only to those who loved him, but to all of us who still believe in the dignity of every human being.
As we remember him, let us also remember what remains before us. Mourning must move us toward moral courage. Grief must move us toward justice. And love must move us to create a world where no child has to carry this kind of loss because of violence and dehumanization.
Please continue to lift up Gianna and all who love and miss him.

Before Memorial Day was recognized across America, freed Black Americans in Charleston, South Carolina gathered in 1865 to honor 257 Union soldiers who gave their lives fighting for freedom and the preservation of our nation. Black troops marched, families laid flowers, and a grieving but hopeful community came together to ensure these men would never be forgotten. This Memorial Day, we honor this history and all the brave soldiers whose sacrifices helped shape the freedoms we cherish today.

❓Respond: What keeps you from true rest? How can your surrender to God produce peace?
On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.
@TheTennisLetter she ate with acknowledging how there are always all white dinner parties and no one blinks twice to acknowledge the innate exclusion of that … yet it’s immediately and issue for white people when there’s no caucus representation
Naomi Osaka on why she chose to host a party for the black tennis players:
“You know I'm seeing a little bit of-
‘Why can't you love everyone for all skin tones?’ and ‘what if someone had an all white party?! First of all I do love everyone for who they are no matter their race + ethnicity, (I'm literally half Japanese lol). I can only speak from my experiences in my own life though, growing up as a tennis player I didn't see many people that looked like ME and I feel like it's important to celebrate them.
Secondly I feel like it's important to note that there have been all white dinners/parties. I don't know how else to tell you this, I literally seen them all the time and never had an issue with it at all. To the people who ask this question I want to ask you this question too, ‘What is it about POC getting together that unsettles you so much?’
I want to end this by saying I grew up watching my dad get discriminated against, having the cops called on him multiple times at the tennis court. There are multiple things I will apologize for in my life but celebrating being black and appreciating who we are will never be something I would consider saying sorry for. Thanks.
Actually I lied, I am sorry. I'm sorry for the people who cannot comprehend in their brains that this is not about exclusion, this is a celebration about how far we have come 🖤”
