For me, it boils down to this...

None of us will ever have things exactly as we wish but I'd rather be one voice in 5 million than be half a voice that is ignored, in a sea of 45 million.

I'll try to respond to all of your comments here.

Fair enough that you don't like the "leadership" but, really, there is no "leader". I don't follow blindly any of them nor do the majority of us... in fact, I've been advocating independence for four decades now. Leaders have come and gone. I'm doing this for my reasons alone (my descendants mainly). I welcome them pushing in the same direction I am but, other than that, they are just horsepower to reach a goal. Should we be successful and become independent, we (you and I and all Alberta) will decide who will be the face of the country at that time... my hope is that the constitution will be formulated so that the "person at the top" is merely a representative of the peoples' wishes, not a "leader" who's will we must follow until the next election. By necessity, there would be an interim government with limited powers. What its makeup is also not a settled question... but there is plenty of time to settle it.

There are a variety of thoughts of what a constitution would look like as well and it will take a true, open and widespread dialogue to settle on its final form... a form that will need majority approval to become law (a widely agreed upon concept)... We, collectively, must approve it

In order for me to wish to remain in Canada, some things (if not most) must be fixed. I sense you'd agree on the need for fair representation for all provinces and guaranteed rights (unlike how it is now) as well as others. How do we fix them?

I've watched Alberta and other regions be ignored, overruled and dictated to, for the benefit of those regions with true political power, all of my life... regardless of who is in power in Ottawa. Harper being the prime example... even had he wanted to (and that is not obvious) he couldn't due to the very anatomy of Canada's political system.

I've watched well intentioned people with massive support try to change the system from within (i.e. Reform Party, equalization referendum etc.) and concluded that the system cannot be changed... it is set up like a casino: The House always wins... the only way NOT to lose is to NOT play their games. That is the only vector that will achieve the change I (and maybe you) seek.

As it stands, those that benefit massively from the system are also those whose consent we need to change it... "the deck is stacked" (maintaining the casino analogy).

You and I are not so different... it may only boil down to our levels of patience.

I'd like your take on what I've replied.

Good on you, as well, to be fighting for your children like I am... The only difference between you and I is, I'm fighting for their freedom from Ottawa and you are fighting for the opposite.

And, not that it's any of your business nor is it relevant but, I have lived in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Quebec and spent lots of time in all 10 provinces and 2 of the 3 territories.

I'm no dummy (if that wasn't obvious) and I don't believe you are either, you are merely wrong... happens to the best of us sometimes. It's unfortunate that, this time, it is about something so important. I'm sorry that you are such a poor judge of intelligence but that is likely something I cannot fix.
