@Colm_Digby@AnnEvaLutor @ICT_Energy @H2020_Partner @SME_Participant @H2020experts@jdlangton There was some kind of opinion survey in summer 2019 aimed for Horizon Europe, but haven't seen results published
The same number of #EICAccelerator grants was given to both groups. It was easier to win in COVID-19 group. There was less competition for getting invitations to interview with over 1k proposals less and higher budget that translated to higher success rate. #EUeic#H2020
Few countries did very well – top 5 got 40 out of total 72 grants (~55%). Western Europe is holding strong. CEE with just 1 grant (Latvia) - not. The geographical distribution of grants is worrying, as it might deepen the innovation gap between regions #EICAccelerator#EUeic
In COVID-19 group Netherlands, Ireland and Denmark took impressive 15 grants. 6 winning countries got together 27 out of 36 grants. #EICAccelerator#euEIC#H2020
The projects from 45 countries applied in #March for #EICAccelerator, and around 1/3 of them got the grant. The EC infographic showed that 20 countries got funding, but however we were counting - the official list of funded companies just showed 16 countries. 🤷🏽♀️#EUeic#H2020
And another March #EICAccelerator budget comparison – budget split declared by the EC at the end of April in a press release vs final one. No change in total amount (314m), but different split - more for COVID projects. #EUeic#H2020
@jdlangton This is what infographic the EC published suggests, but looking at previous info from the EC about the number of COVID proposals (first 1k, later 1.4k) , it would be peculiar if all COVID proposals were eligible and 1k of regular ones not (usually, around just 10-20).
When we compare #March to the previous #EICAccelerator calls, we can see that despite high budgets the number of funded projects is low and the success rate keeps falling down. #EUeic#H2020
In March #EICAccelerator call companies were divided by the EC as COVID-19 related and regular, with separate budgets. Yesterday the EC announced that the regular are focused on ‘recovery plan for Europe’. So in a way – all were related to pandemic. #EUeic#H2020
Background: few days before the deadline, the #EC encouraged COVID-19 related projects to apply and postponed deadline. And found additional budget. It resulted in some extremes – the highest number of applications, highest budget and… lowest success rate ever. #EUeic#H2020
As usual, when #EICAccelerator#H2020 results are out, we take the liberty to analyze the stats. This time we have a quite exceptional March dual cut-off. #EUeic
❗️Due to the exceptional situation and record number of applications received, an additional week is needed to perform the remote evaluation for #eicAccelerator 20 March cut-off. Therefore, the face-to-face interviews will now take place from 🗓️ 11 to 20 May 2020 #EUeic
2/2 Global uncertainty, investors freezing funding and fighting for life might pushed new companies to apply or get back with old applications. Unfortunately, with the limited #eicAccelerator budget we can expect another record to be broken.
The spike in proposals was expected as few days before #eicAccelerator#H2020 deadline the #EC encouraged #COVID-19 projects. But the scale is unprecedented. Even without 1k corona proposals, it still would be a record. 1/2
Few days ago we thought that stats comparison January 2020 vs October 2020 from #eicAccelerator#H2020 wasn’t encouraging. What a difference a day makes. In the latest #March#euEIC call we can see almost 4k companies competing for a quite shy budget of 164m.
#January 2020 #eicAccelerator call #H2020 was a tough one. 2% success rate vs 4% in October 19 call (proposals funded vs proposals submitted). 26% interview success rate vs 40% in the previous call. #euEIC
