It’s exhausting.

Exhausting to see the hate against Jews rise from every corner of the world, and from people who have no connection to the Middle East whatsoever. These very people who have never felt outrage for real atrocities taking place all around the world. No Jews, no news.

Exhausting to see these very people being fed manufactured lies parroted and amplified by every mainstream media as fact, and believing the propaganda turning aggressors into victims.

Exhausting to hear words that have no place in this conflict like genocide, apartheid, ethnic cleansing — crafted by terrorists and their henchmen — in the mouths of an entire generation in the West and across our “elite” university campuses.

Exhausting to watch Western civilizations and governments committing suicide by aligning themselves with groups and ideology that seek to destroy the Judeo-Christian and Western way of life. It starts with the Jews, and ends with the rest of you…

It’s exhausting to be a Jew these days.

But then you think of your brothers and sisters fighting and risking their lives every day to return our hostages, and to ensure Israel continues to exist forever, and you find the energy again to fight in your own ways. Again, and again. Because you know right from wrong.

Life goes on. The sun comes up. The birds chirp. Palestinians launch rockets at civilian centers from their schools and hospitals. You walk the dog. It looks like rain. You eat breakfast. Palestinians are marching in your streets. You go to work. Your new colleagues have a lot of tattoos and talk about decolonize this and white adjacent that. It feels like rain. There’s a violent march at the university with people in keffiyehs yelling globalize the intifada. You pick up some groceries on the way home. Prices are high. That was the university you were hoping your kids would go to. The good one you could afford. Dinner is everyone on their own. Wife still at work, kids and out from activities and part time jobs. The sun goes down. You read. Your well read, but not sleeping well these days. It’s sure to rain soon. You hope for a change in the weather.

A few words about the protests/encampments at Columbia:

Back in December 2018, when I was a junior, a white student named Julian Von Abele was filmed going on an ethno-centric rant about how much he loved white people. He said things like: “White people are the best thing that ever happened to the world,” and “We invented science and industry, and you want to tell us to stop because ‘Oh My God we’re so bad’”. He was careful to add the caveat: “I don’t hate other people. I just love white men”.

The video went viral on campus. He was unanimously condemned: by students, professors and administrators alike. He was even banned from Barnard’s campus––though the “incident” didn’t even happen on Barnard’s campus.

Race pride is the opiate of weak individuals. I have always thought so. Nevertheless, I defended Julian at the time––not on the grounds that he was right, but on the grounds that he had every right to express his dumb beliefs without fear of being disciplined or banned from a campus for doing so. I don’t recall anyone at Columbia who publicly came to his defense at the time.

Fast forward 5 years: we now have Columbia students chanting “Globalize the Intifada” and “From the River to the Sea” en masse. To my ear, these slogans suggest support for, at minimum, violence against Jewish civilians in Israel––much worse than anything Von Abele advocated. Yet all the same people who were silent or supportive of his cancellation have suddenly discovered the virtues of unbridled free speech. Forgive me if I don’t believe it for a second.

Let’s not deceive ourselves into thinking that any of these people value liberal principles. They don’t. They believe in the destruction of Israel––which they erroneously categorize as an colonialist entity––and they will use every liberal principle, selectively and cynically, to further that goal.

But let me be clear: I completely support their right to say all of these slogans. Students should be allowed to chant “Globalize the Intifada” and “From the River to the Sea”. These are slogans whose meaning is contested. What it means to your ear is not necessarily what it means to an idiotic Columbia student whose only knowledge of the Israel-Palestine conflict comes from Instagram posts also made by idiots.

Free speech is never about protecting speech you agree with. It’s always about protecting speech you hate. That is precisely the speech which needs protecting. Having defended the Von Abele’s of the world, no one will accuse me of being a hypocrite.

Of course, when they cross the line from speech into prohibited actions––creating zones where certain kinds of students (e.g., Zionists) can’t enter; human chains that prevent freedom of movement for other students; harassment/stalking of specific students, and so forth––then they must be disciplined to the full extent of campus policy and the law. If they want to get arrested or expelled, then schools and police should grant that wish without a hint of guilt. Let them explain to their parents why they threw away $70,000/year over a foreign conflict that they barely understand.

Still, the punchline must be: Hypocrites deserve free speech too.

A barbaric terrorist organization attacks a democratic country, murders over a thousand innocent people, rapes, beheads, and burns countless others. The world takes their side. Can’t make this stuff up.

After committing those horrible atrocities, the same organization releases casualty numbers from their side, and the world believes them blindly. Can’t make this stuff up.

In 2024, and Jewish students and professors are being blocked from entering their own universities and the Jews who are on campus are being bullied, harassed, and assaulted. In 2024. Can’t make this stuff up.

The camp that leads all the antisemitic activities on and off campus call themselves liberals and progressives even though the people they are marching for share zero progressive or liberal values. Can’t make this stuff up.

There are anti Jewish marches throughout America calling to globalize the intifada, aka blow up buses around the world, all in the name of the Middle East conflict but not one such march happened in the actual Middle East. Can’t make this stuff up.

Throughout all the elite American universities, there are actual criminals and terrorists openly calling for genocide and somehow the universities are cool with this. Can’t make this stuff up.

International organizations like the UN and the ICJ are calling to issue warrants for the arrest of Israeli officials but not a single word about Hamas. Can’t make this stuff up.

International pressure on Israel to end the war is increasing with close to no pressure on Hamas to release the hostages. Can’t make this stuff up.

Words like genocide and apartheid are being thrown around in regard to Israel when in reality, Israel’s enemy Hamas has declared its actual desire to commit genocide, something it tried on October 7th. Add to that that Arabs are free in Israel but if a Jew steps foot in a Palestinian village or town, he won’t leave alive. Can’t make this stuff up.

The Red Cross has not visited Israeli hostages once since October 7th, and everyone seems to be ok with that. They had one job. Can’t make this stuff up.

The countries/regions attacking Israel include Gaza, Judea and Samaria (aka the West Bank), Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and that’s just on the military front. Yet somehow, Israel is the oppressor, Israel is the strong side. Can’t make this stuff up.

There are actual people comparing innocent women and children held in Hamas dungeons to mass murderers held in Israeli prisons. Can’t make this stuff up.

There are many thousands of people calling for a ceasefire and then in the next breath, they call to globalize the intifada. Those two things can’t co-exist. Can’t make this stuff up.

The same people accusing Israel of genocide are the same people chanting from the river to the sea, which literally means the erasure of Israel, aka actual genocide of Israelis. Can’t make this stuff up.

Actual Hamas terrorists are hiding in Rafah and yet the world wants to prevent Israel from entering and eliminating them. Can’t make this stuff up.

There are still people going with the “It’s not antisemitism. It’s just anti Zionism.” claim when random Jews are being attacked simply for being Jewish. Can’t make this stuff up.

Even according to Hamas’ made up numbers, this war has significantly less casualties than countless conflicts around the world, and yet, it’s all anyone’s talking about. Can’t make this stuff up.

Radical Islam has become a global plague that is infiltrating America as we speak, and no one has the guts to say it out loud. Can’t make this stuff up.

The fact that Hamas did what they did came as a surprise to many, even though murdering Jews and infidels is mentioned in the Quran many times. Can’t make this stuff up.

Thousands use the freedom of speech given to them by the United States to chant “Death to America.” on American soil. Can’t make this stuff up.

This entire war from beginning to end makes zero sense and it seems like no one else is paying attention.

What happened to logic? What happened to reason? Morality? Ethics? Truth?

What happened to critical thinking?

In such a short time, the world has gone nuts and we all just go on with our day as if any of this is normal.

Went to UCLA this afternoon to talk to people peacefully. Few interesting takeaways:

1) Most of them openly say they support Hamas, a designated terrorist organization;

2) They say 10/7 atrocities, rapes, murders, didn’t happen. The official line is “even the NYT debunked it!”;

3) 10/7 was justified. It was resistance;

4) 100% of the people we spoke to had the exact same narrative and MO, trying to recenter the conversation to 1948, without knowing any of the details when challenged;

5) They have their own security and control access to their encampment;

6) We remained very calm, but they got really aggressive and angry;

7) When you approach people who clearly are junior to others, “handlers” show up very quickly to takeover;

8) Since many of them are truly ignorant about historical and present facts, when they know they’re going to embarrass themselves, they all say “read our 5 demands to divest, now I’m going to stop talking to you.”

More organized and orchestrated than I expected. Very sad to see so many young people in a higher education setting being manipulated and brainwashed and totally devoid of critical thinking.
