@Liamjsm i will not stand for nicholas decker slander. hanging around universities informally participating is a glorious tradition. especially when you're predoc research staff and maintain dedication to engaging with the intellectual community!
@JacobAShell in fact it's a little more complicated than that since the curriculum changed significantly over time (it's unlikely Rousseau was on the syllabus in the 20s---back then it was more like a typical social studies class than a philosophy class) but the audience definitely shifted!
@JacobAShell an amusing experience studying Contemporary Civilization at Columbia (a whole bunch of political theory---Locke, Rousseau, all your favs) was my professor having us look at the original 1919 proposal for the course which presumes students would go on to be politicians
@SCentralized@mightydudbolt I especially like this because 1-2-4 doesn't feature Palpatine as a Force user. The implication of ANH is that the Empire is a bureaucratic machine, it's banal fascism. It's really weird that it's secretly led by a cackling evil wizard.
@lofty_shining main thing isn't the typesetting but a URL parameter that specifies the casting so you can use it to interpret the hexagram, e.g. ?c=677999
@kendrictonn seems significant that you're making this observation while quoting a tweet that articulates this hypothetical artist's indifference towards the medium. functionalism is what you get when you don't care about form
@Colin_d_m this area shocked me when i first ran into it. possibly a good thing to provide a simulacrum of the suburb in brooklyn. show them Pottersville
@simontmn1@VillainLither@Authw8 What are some of the ways it in which the high medieval period is distinct that aren't captured in fantasy settings? Asking as a layperson
@UrbanCourtyard I lived in one of these in Brooklyn after college. It was great. My landlord was a stylish pediatrician who owned the practice downstairs and the management was incredible.
@inkblotPrincess This seems obviously wrong. Of course the highest-grossing movies will have the highest budgets and come from the biggest studios. But each person is likely to watch smaller films that satisfy their specific taste. Art movies are just one example of niche interest in film.
