"Flawless Victory"
December 3, 1976: At 8:30pm in Kingston, Jamaica, 7 armed men raided the home of Bob Marley and shot him. This was 2 days before the Smile Jamaica Concert.
THE SHOOTING:
Marley and his band were on break from rehearsal.
Marley's wife, Rita, was shot in the head in her car in the driveway.
The gunmen shot Bob in the chest and arm. His manager, Don Taylor, was shot in the legs and torso. Band employee Louis Griffiths took a bullet to his torso as well.
Marley’s manager sustained serious injuries from being shot in the leg.
It’s believed Rita’s super dense dreadlocks minimized the impact of the bullet.
They were all rushed to the University Hospital and treated.
There were no fatalities.
AFTERMATH:
The nation was shocked about the attempt on Marley’s life at a time he had become a national treasure.
Bob Marley and the Wailers went on to do the free Smile Concert for some 8,000 fans.
After the assassination attempt, Bob Marley & his family moved to England.
He was tremendously depressed and hurt because he had been helping the people who came the people that shot him.
