Not often you see a Rule 5 guy (Spencer Miles, from the SF org) throw 99 with movement like this on the corner, while striking out the side. He's a real one.
Tyler Mahle said he didn’t realize he was on a pitch limit of 85, which influenced how he pitched around Ketel Marte to end his night.
Mahle thought “it was going to be normal” but added that he should’ve realized he wasn’t going to throw too much in his second start back.
Impressive from Ireland, meaningless for India, who are and will remain overwhelming favorites in T20s for the foreseeable future. Feel bad for Iyer though. Managed to take over captaincy of the greatest T20 team ever assembled and immediately gets washed by Ireland.
We also know that the FO plays a role in managerial decisions and they have a ridiculous obsession with doing things the “right way” instead of actually trying to improve this team. Can’t imagine that’s helped the bench situation. And to be fair, Vitello agreed to the FO’s vision
Even on a top-10 offense this team still has some awful roster decisions. This FO (and the prior FO) deserve some credit for the offense but the assembly of this bench is and has been horrible all season. 18 consecutive days with 0 appearances is terrible.
Not gonna lie, forgot Buddy Kennedy was even on the active roster. Hadn't appeared in a game since June 10, when he had one plate appearance as a pinch-hitter. #SFGiants
Typically bench usage is the manager’s responsibility and I do question why Vitello hasn’t tried to use them more strategically. At the same time I don’t exactly know what he’s supposed to do with “Buddy Kennedy” and an OF who had good BABIP luck for a couple months in AA.
Giants lose, 9-6.
The Giants were one out away from their first sweep of the season. Instead, they end up with an absolute gutting loss.
The bullpen allowed seven runs over three innings.
They're 33-47.
NEW for @capostsports: In response to suboptimal pitch-sequencing, #SFGiants are encouraging their starters to call their own games.
It has been a "challenge" for Daniel Susac and Eric Haase to get up to speed with the pitching staff.

Very tense moment between Buster Posey and the press when questioned about the Giants pride hats and their players.
Before this, he began with a statement saying the organization had shared their response on pride night and he wasn't going to revisit. @KPIXtv
Every move made by this FO needs to be for next year and beyond. Cox’s bat was unsustainable but he should be getting consistent ABs in AAA. Very few of the prospects in the upper levels are particularly exciting but their development has to be prioritized over anything else.
Mahle over Houser is probably to showcase him for the next month to extract some trade value. Moving him + Ray gives McDonald + Whis full-time spots. Houser will probably start again this season and unfortunately will compete for a rotation spot next year too.
Houser has actually been really good against righties and should help the bullpen if used right, but that’s a bad outcome this early in a two-year deal. (I also don’t understand why the Giants never tried an opener for him)
This is basically saying they’d prefer to keep Chapman because I doubt there was any interest in Devers or Adames anyways. The offense has looked good and could be something to build around next year but I have no idea how they address pitching.
After reports of the Giants being open to trading their big contracts, it seems like the new consensus is to play it through.
They’re second in MLB in OPS since May 1 — a possible reason to run it back next year, w/ more pitching.

Both sides have a good argument on if we should trade Webb or not. Trading a frontline starter on a very reasonable contract thru 2028 would warrant a huge return. Minimum 3 T100 prospects including a T30. But trading Webb officially signals a rebuild.
Ultimately, I’d be okay with the team attempting to rebuild the rotation around Webb and try to compete the next few years. If it backfires, they could look to move him next season instead. But I’d also understand if there is an offer that is too good to refuse.
