Lula just posted a simple Sunday message to the Brazilian people. He mentioned his voice has finally recovered, thanked everyone who voted to protect their democracy, sent a "kiss in the heart," and added one crucial warning: "We remain vigilant and strong."
It’s easy to scroll past this as just a polite thank-you note. But when you look at the context of the last few weeks, it tells you everything you need to know about the two completely different worlds fighting for Brazil right now.
Think about the contrast. The 81-year-old metalworker who just fought off the full weight of Silicon Valley algorithms, US-backed oligarchs, and massive disinformation campaigns is sending warmth and love to the people.
Meanwhile, the man who lost the election fled to Miami to hide from justice, and wrote a delusional letter first claiming "true president-elect of Brazil" and then when he understood that everyone knows you lost. deleted it and claimed "true leader" while misspelling his own country's name with an English Z.
One side operates on fear, corruption, and running away when things get tough. The other side operates on solidarity, endurance, and a genuine love for the people.
But that one line—"We remain vigilant"—is the most important part of the message. Lula knows the election is over, but the real fight isn't. He knows the financial markets will try to punish Brazil for choosing him. He knows the far-right will keep pushing lies online. He knows the empire never just accepts defeat and goes home.
He’s telling the working class to enjoy their Sunday, to rest up, but to keep their eyes open. Because when your power comes from the people and not from foreign bank accounts, you have to protect it every single day.
You can buy the media, and you can flee to Florida when you lose. But you can't fake the kind of genuine connection a leader has with the people who built him.
O GP do México parou pra cantar “Olê olê olê olê olá, Lula Lula”
