The University of Zimbabwe: A Culture of Entitlement and Impunity
The University of Zimbabwe, under his leadership, has become a bastion of entitlement and impunity. The VC, Paul Mapfumo, and his cohorts have created a culture where they are above the law, above accountability, and above reproach.

The students, the lecturers, and the institution itself are mere pawns in their game of power and privilege. They have created a system where they can do as they please, without fear of consequence, without fear of accountability, and without fear of reprisal.

The one-day learning and exam farce is just a symptom of a deeper rot, a deeper decay of values, and a deeper erosion of accountability. The chairpersons and deans, instead of upholding the highest standards of education, have become complicit in this charade, this farce, this travesty.

The VC, Paul Mapfumo, has become a symbol of entitlement, a symbol of impunity, and a symbol of arrogance. He has created a system where he is the law, where he is the only one who matters, and where everyone else is just a mere pawn.

We must stand up against this culture of entitlement and impunity. We must demand accountability, we must demand transparency, and we must demand a leadership that is accountable to the people. AUT POSITION REGARDING VC ADDRESS
Comrades, we write to inform you about our collectively considered position regarding the so called address by the University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor to academics.
Our position remains the one we defined for ourselves from the 16th of April 2025. WE ARE ON A LAWFUL AND CONSTITUTIONAL STRIKE!
As such, we do not participate in anything to do with UZ, be it teaching, research, examining, invigilating, departmental board meetings, faculty meetings or any other meeting, and that includes the said address by the VC.
WE ARE NOT ATTENDING!
We shall only attend to meetings and return to our normal duties, the year that pleasant noise shall reach our phones reporting credit of $2250 USD!
We remain resolute on our demand for $2250 USD per month. No meeting or address shall be attended by academics until that condition is met.
The time for such addresses is OVER!
Colleagues, do not be deceived by these theatrics. They are meant to divide you. The address is a distraction from the real issue. In fact, in calling for this meeting, he wants to threaten you with expulsions if you don't attend the Research Week and if you don't return to work. He wants to threaten you with no work no salary principle
Above all he wants to take photos so as to continue with the false narrative that it is business as usual
Let us allow him to address empty chairs!

FROM INBOX | I left home burdened with stress. My kids missed school because they didn’t have winter uniforms. I managed to raise $50, hoping to get them ready for tomorrow.

On my way, I mistakenly turned into a one-way on Leopold Takawira from Robert Mugabe. Within seconds, two city council officers approached and clamped my car. I explained and apologized, but they wouldn’t listen. Instead, their team of four (two men, two women) took $40 from me to avoid a $230 fine (as they claimed). I paid because I had no choice.

To that team: today, you shared my children’s school uniform money among yourselves. We’re back home, and my kids still don’t have uniforms, because you chose power over compassion. I leave you with what I said: the universe always balances its equations. Mine did today. Yours will too.

I think the surprise many non-South Africans have about how far the entire country took this beauty pageant case is because we think of it as an aberration and a distraction - the kind of two day social media trend that goes away and gives space for more important issues to surface.

But, as someone who has lived in South Africa, I can assure viewers that this is not a distraction. Anti-black migrant discourse is a critical national issue in South Africa.

As surely as the sun rises daily, the average South African would find a way to tie any social problem to black migrants.

No electricity? Too many black migrants overloading the system.

Crime in cities? Black migrants did it.

Drugs in townships? Black migrants sell it.

Police corruption? Black migrants bought them.

Unemployment? Black migrants taking the jobs.

Failed at a business? Black migrants bullied the SA entrepreneur.

Unpopular govt policies? The ANC does this to protect black migrants.

SA national arrested for a crime? Must have been influenced by black migrants.

Rising house rents? Black migrants taking over property.

SA reputation declining abroad? Black migrants are out there pretending to be SAns.

The black migrant in South Africa is blamed for everything: from petty street crime to grand state capture.

Holding politicians accountable for social problems is second only to the culture of identity politics that frames every issue as one of nationalism.

I have had South African close acquaintances throw me under the bus or act distant rather than be perceived as being friendly to a foreigner. It is practically stigmatising to show care for non South Africans.

In short, the Miss SA issue is not an aberration; it is not a sudden distraction. It is the main national conversation. And it is rightfully weird, to anyone who is not South African, how deeply invested an entire country is in this.

And that’s why we say South Africa is xenophobic.
