The beauty of Lwanda Kotieno lies just 100 kilometres from Kisumu International Airport. The only international airport that goes to sleep while school kids are still awake, totally underutilised.

Why the insistence on nuclear power when we have barely begun to exploit God-given, clean, natural energy sources like geothermal? We are assisting Ethiopia with geothermal drilling, while at home, we are promoting nuclear energy from one county to another.

God has again been kind to us by giving us rivers that support hydropower. Desilt the dams and increase water volume; protect water towers to reduce soil runoff and silting.

Almighty God has also been kind to us with both solar and wind generated power , both are clean sources, yet we insist to toy around with nuclear energy.

Policy makers, please construct more dams along our rivers to support irrigation and mitigate flooding downstream. Just look at the destruction caused by River Tana in Garissa and Tana River counties River Nyando or Nzoia . River Tana, all the water runoff ends up in the ocean, carrying topsoil that disrupts the marine ecosystem and bleaches coral reefs.

I am no scientist, but we certainly have our priorities upside down.

It is hard to remain optimistic, but I can't and won't give up.
