"The internet can be a prodigious enabler for girls but if the digital gender gap is not addressed, digital technologies may intensify gender disparities..." writes @observerug 's @DerrickKiyongad

Copyright and plagiarism - Do we know the difference? Can they be similar? How do we apply our knowledge of these in our work as journal authors, educators at higher institutions of learning, etc. #researchequity@INASPinfo@JOLsProject@AJOLinfo @MakerereU @NdejjeUnive
From the second part of today's discussion on copyright & plagiarism;
- Self plagiarism can also be copyright infringement - and is so whether or not the author owns the copyrights for their work. #researchequity@INASPinfo@AJOLinfo@JOLsProject@UNCST_Uganda@wougnet
Day 2 with @INASPinfo@UNCST_Uganda kicks off with an introduction to copyright and permissions - a lot of interest among participants on the use of creative commons licenses and how this may benefit or negatively impact on African journal works #researchequity @info_uprs
@wougnet@moes_ug needs to - Introduce & improve on already existing ICT related subjects at primary and secondary school; Offer digital training for all youth who are in & out of school at new & existing community centers at no cost #IYD2019#IYDUg2019#InternationalYouthDay2019
Q5.Our final question - What do you think should be a priority area to make digital skilling for rural youth more effective. #IYD2019#IYDUg2019#InternationalYouthDay
@wougnet A4. The govt of Ug thru @UCC_Official, set up the RCDF in 2009, so far & to the best of my knowledge most govt offices in most of rural Uganda have been connected to the internet thru the extension of the national broadband infrastructure project #IYD2019#IYDUg2019
Q4. Has the RCDF has been effective in addressing issues of access to the internet for rural youth and citizens at large? If so how and if not what would you recommend for it to be effective in enabling access? #IYD2019#IYDUg2019
A bit over 80% of youth in ug live in urban areas with over 75% having post primary education, the remaining 20% or more & particularly the young women have little or no access to post primary education due to various reasons like poverty, gender bias cultural norms etc. #IYD2019
Q2. Do you think rural youth are likely to be more digitally competent with education? Would government programs like UPE and USE be helpful in this sense? Why or why not? #InternationalYouthDay#IYD2019#IYDUg2019
@GSMA@UN_SDG@APC_News Q&A – standout question from one of the participants - The recommendations mentioned in the report have been carried out by partners in the past but the gender gap is still persisting. IS THERE SOMETHING WE ARE MISSING?
I’ll leave that right there for us to think about.
@GSMA@UN_SDG Why does the mobile gender gap exist, persist & why can’t it be closed? – this is due to; Demographic barriers that indicate a larger number of women being illiterate & excluded from the labor force; Social norms that limit women’s mobility & financial autonomy @APC_News
